I think we’ll be seeing alot more cases like this. The extremists are on to something here, a bomb is bad but a load of gun welding nutters gunning people down is a lot more terrifying than a single bomb going off. I fear something bad is going to happen around Xmas time as copycat cells will want to keep the pressure on.

It genuinely fucks me off in a major way when shit like this happens. Nothing you can do about it though innit :hopeless:

To put it into perspective, there are incidents of this nature around every two months in India. If you read the Asian news sites a lot there are loads more such attacks, with similar casualty levels. The only reason this one got reported more widely is that this group specifically targeted tourist areas and foreigners.

The India/Pakistan situation has been going on since (Mahatma) Ghandi got shot dead. it indirectly affects every other Asian nation all the way to SE Asia There have been four full-on wars since 1948 and 2008.

I read that Indian/Pakistani relations are extremely bad now because the attackers had Pakistani links. You think this might turn into something worse?

there is a risk of wider conflict but a lot of this depends on the reactions from the other Commonwealth and UN nations. TBH the biggest impact will probably just start in India – which for an Asian nation is liberal as far as trade and movement is concerned, and doesn’t have as much of a surveillance society as China or a Western nation.

I expect this will all soon change.

Both the Interior minister and the head of the security services have resigned as they felt they weren’t able to protect their country – I expect hardliners may well replace them.

am i right in thinkin, both nations have nukes :hopeless:… do you think that us brits are partially responsible for the antagonism between these 2 nations.

we divided them up in 48, i think…

unfortunately so…. and thats why them two mateys put a few caps in Mahatma Ghandi as they thought he had made too many compromises with Britain.

The older one got hanged (standard penalty for terrorism in the 50s even post independence) but the younger lad was <17 at the time so just as in Britain was given clemency and did a life sentence.

I remember a few years back (2001/02?) it was the time when he was up for parole and if he had said something conciliatory they would have probably let him go, but he said from his prison cell “I still hate that bastard Ghandi, if I could turn the clock back I’d shoot the bastard again!”

I think the last Ghandi family member gave up politics in the mid 2000s for the sake of her two daughters and kept her head down. This was probably a very wise thing to do.

Also it is a big fallacy that Asians are passive/quiet/inscrutable – they can obviously work well as a team as has been proved in business worldwide, but they can be deeply passionate and stubborn [not unlike East Anglians] . If it weren’t for the strong goverments/family/social culture in those nations the whole fucking continent would be ablaze.

someone told me that the people that did these attacks had links to al-queda, is that right or are they talking shit? not seen the news this weekend really..
