its just that I have a hatred for luvvies, celebs, journos etc from privileged backgrounds like him as they create nice little “dream jobs” for themselves and shut out otherwise talented people from the creative industries because they are working class or didn’t go to the right uni or they won’t sleep with the producers…
we have to pay for their nice little playgrounds with our telly licenses and the marketing budgets of companies – yet if my friends in Norfolk or Suffolk do something creative themselves outside the system, next thing they know their rigs are in crushers and people are in prison…
Interesting views. Maybe it would be more accurate for me to say I love his TV personality more than him as a person?
I don’t actually agree that he, or others like him, would necessarily “shut out otherwise talented people from the creative industries because they are working class or didn’t go to the right uni or they won’t sleep with the producers”. I think thats presumptious and small-minded to automatically presume they’d do that/be that way without knowing them.
But I truly do respect the anarchism and spirit you encapsulate.
one thing I forgot to tell you (as I didn’t want to derail the thread too much) is that I spent 3 years working in the media industry and did consider it as a permanent career. I have indeed met many media people (although not so much the celebs) and noticed this sort of thing happen first hand due to a variety of factors – not even just with a-list but with local media “personalities”, some proper alan partridge stuff :laugh_at:
I have also seen a few shows being filmed and heard a lot of stories from insiders (particularly engineers) and it really is a cut throat business, many people on the same project fucking hate one another (even co-presenters) but put on a facade because they all want to keep the work. there are other pressures on the luvvies such as budgets / funding etc but most of them actually buy their commissions through their own production companies and thus keep the work within a tight little circle.
It really is a “closed shop” and one of the few remaining ones in this nation, hence why the media is completely out o touch (and also why it is self destructing itself..)
I’ve split this thread from the original cannabis documentary thread – incidentally another point is that on the rave scene “superstar DJ’s” and promoters formed cartels, with bitter rivalry – to the point of stuff happening like promoters being beat up, flyering teams having flyers taken off them and destroyed, and even fire bells being set off during peoples sets and worse, CS gas being released in the middle of dancefloors 😥 (an apt icon for the unfortunates in a venue when this happens!)
I’m not even talking here about drug turf wars (of course these happened too), this is over the music and glory..

Never ever heard of or experienced that… Is it at legals or squats?

Its sadly quite common for promotions flyers to ‘go missing’ during the course of an evening when they are due to flyer after another promotions night.
legals events. thankfully the worst of these incidents other than flyers going missing would have happened before your time during the early/mid 90s when the legal rave scene was much larger and there was more money to be made…
‘before your time’ :laugh_at:
I thought it would be at legals. At illegals it all seems to be very friendly between crews, with acts from different crews playing side by side on the
same night…
It doesn’t suprise me to see it driven by money… That’s something you can almost certainly be sure won’t happen at squats lol. :bounce_fl
