Broadband promised to unite the world with super-fast data delivery – but in South Africa it seems the web is still no faster than a humble pigeon.
A Durban IT company pitted an 11-month-old bird armed with a 4GB memory stick against the ADSL service from the country’s biggest web firm, Telkom.
Winston the pigeon took two hours to carry the data 60 miles – in the same time the ADSL had sent 4% of the data.
Telkom said it was not responsible for the firm’s slow internet speed
i was just showing this to my mate in the paper lol
sry i took so long to reply to this .. i sent it with my broadband connection :laugh_at:
I’d discussed on another forum using dogs and other larger animals for this purpose to get away from censorship or ropey connections.
you could even use cats if they were going to where their food is, but you’d get jitter and packet loss as cats would dynamically allocate their own routes and not all will accept collars with heavy packages.
also to put a collar / harness on a cat what didn’t want to wear one would be more painful than getting bitten but 120V DC “double battery” found on bare telephone wires on some special BT circuits :laugh_at:
i think carrier pigeons with 64GB flash drives is the way forward
