a lot my old friends used to travel or still do across the euro free parties but I haven’t really kept touch with them, its a bit of a extreme lifestyle which fucks up a lot of people.
you do get raves in most EU nations but they are all experiencing various forms of clampdowns for the same reasons as in Britain, we all have public healthcare services and they are fucked off with treating young wasters who have various self-inflicted medical conditions through drugs. I can go onto foreign news websites and there are the exact same anger stories (its gone beyond scare stories) about meow and ketamine and pills but in diferrent languages.
friends have always come back with glowing reports – but none of them have made me want to travel to Europe for a party (as opposed to wanting to visit countries for other reasons). if you want to go partying in a different country I’d try and learn some languages and befriend locals first (not British expats or expats from any other rich Euro nation..)
And TBH from what I’ve picked up on here I’d feel less comfortable at a euro-rave than in Britain – no disrepect meant to euro-ravers but I can tell there is some serious opposition to the culture these days, more racial tension, the hooligans seem able to cause much more disruption than in UK (when did you last hear of a British outdoor rave being shot up or anyone even having firearms there?) and foreign cops have much more guns and CS gas when things kick off!
All said, I actually love other countries and cultures too much to want to inflict my dysfunctional British party head lifestyle on them – if I do go to a foreign nation I’d want to be there for a constructive reason. I think a proper “free party” is a British phenomemon – it grew out of our restrictive licensing hours and lack of access to buildings but many Europeans had much less problems than this particularly in nations where squatting and late night arts/music was already tolerated.
