  • I watched a film on Channel 4 the other night – Waking Life. It’s this mad animation about a guy trapped in a lucid dream who meets all these people along the way who talk philosophy with him. It’s well worth a watch.

Anyway, I’d really like to learn to do this. I think most of us have had occasions when we have realised we are dreaming and have then been able to control the dream to an extent, but it’s possible to teach yourself to get good at it and do whatever you want in the dreams, flying being an obvious example (one character in the film is working on 360 degree vision in his dreams).

I was wondering if anyone had any interesting experiences of lucid dreaming themselves, or tips on how to achieve a lucid dream (without putting liquid acid in your horlicks before bedtime)?

liquid acid in horlicks = lsd destruction!

you’re supposed to put a book/paper next to your bed and recall all ur dreams (write them down), if u cannot remember any of them then they pretty much didnt happen. also when u wake from them do not move, stay still i hear it helps u recall them easier. theres more tips but i cannot remember them, i could never be bothered to interupt my sleep with writing into a book myself.

i know dinososis can lucid dream – mby ask him .. alltho he does alot of acid as you’ll notice in his last thread .. :laugh_at::love:

he turns sleep paralysis into lucid dreaming

there’s a lot of information on the web about how to achieve lucid dreaming. The first step is to start keeping a dream diary, when you start noting down your dreams as you wake up you start to remember them more and are more likely to recognise when you are dreaming

I have lucid dreams (that I remember) a couple of times per year. They are fun, you become god-like in your control of your dream reality.

I tried this last night, and as p0ly said it’s hard actually being arsed to get the book out and write in it every time you wake up! (even though its only under the bed – it’ll be going under my pillow tonight).

And p0ly don’t worry, I wasn’t being serious about putting acid in my bedtime drink 😉

i know mate, i was just looking out for acid!!! IT’S PRECIOUS

there are a couple of ‘reality checks’ you can do as well.. check your watch and check it again a few seconds later and make sure the time difference makes logical sense. If you do this frequently during the day then you will start to do it in your dreams. In your dreams the second glance at the watch will show a significantly different time and you’ll realise you are asleep.

The other one is turn light switches on and off to make sure you are not dreaming because supposedly light intensity doesnt change when you are dreaming. (this one was mentioned in waking life I think)

so yeah, get into the habit during the day of trying to work out if you are dreaming or not. I know its obvious when you’re not dreaming but if you keep forcing yourself to consider the logic of the situation you are in you’ll start doing it when you’re asleep and gaining control. Every time I’ve gained lucid dreaming has been because I’ve gone ‘hang on a minute, that doesnt make sense, I must be asleep’.

I do not recommend keeping a dream journel. It;s was my new years resolution and it completely fucked with my sleep. Examples are having a mother / daughter orgy with the killer clowns from Clownhouse (remember that movie), dmiring Ricky Hattons (crap) jumper in a public toilet, training MMA fighter Ken shamrock, directing a new Predator movie, turning down gun slinging lessons with Clint Eastwood, trying to kill a giant crab on a desert island… and much much more worrying shit. I admit the journal was great, but you have to wake up and write these things down straight away cos you’ll forget them the moment you nod back off to sleep. And sometimes they can be long fucking dreams. Actually, I kind of want to start it again… maybe do it for a week and see how you do.

I managed to do this last night, reckon it will be pretty interesting to keep a diary for a week even if it’s not that helpful.

Last night I met this girl who was making a list of her top 10 and bottom 10 books with bees in them. They all contained Peter Griffin out of Family Guy (cos everyone knows he’s a bee). All the worst books were Dorling Kindersley children’s encyclopaedias, which I thought was a bit unfair, I used to love reading those as a kid. Then my mate was teaching me how to attack someone with a syringe. After that I was watching Newsnight being filmed, and all of the daily newspapers were being interviewed on a panel; two of the tabloids kept fucking around throwing pies etc and annoying all the conservative types in the room.

Righto, check the new thread I’ll create…
