If you’re after affordable rent (<£400pcm) you're probably looking at East London, so Hackney, Stratford, Islington etc. Camden is cool but fucking expensive for rent, as is Shoreditch.
Check out the Gumtree website. Anyone looking for a housemate will generally post on there – there are hundreds of posts each day. Just be aware that loads of scammers use the site, but they’re generally easy to spot cos they use pidgin English and words like “lovely” and “splendid” to describe their properties. A good rule of thumb is if anyone mentions Western Union Money Transfer in their emails, tell them to jog on.
