Suffolk is one of the biggest zero tolerance areas in the UK. Friends of mine with no previous criminal record have been sent to prison for putting on raves – and the cops here are now asked by metpol to show them “how to stop raves and environmental protests”!
I’ll be brutally honest and say that for a lot of people (crews and punters alike) the risks of putting on unlicensed raves now outweigh the benefits so many good crews and events have gone legit.. also a lot of peopel (surprisingly young as well, younger than us) have simply given up partying and settled down as its all too much hassle!
The optimistic and hedonistic days of the 1990s and noughties are gone and they aren’t coming back – sadly London “free” parties have been blighted by worsening gang activity since the last 10 years, so the better ones now charge £10 or more entry fee to pay for security, making them not that different from large legal events held in the capital.
These legal events are regularly advertised here in our Events forum… if you plan stopping in East Anglia there are also other local events. TBH I still feel if parties could regain their original ethos of wider social conciousness as well as hedonism they could once again be more widely tolerated.
incidentally I was one of the people what helped put together the first Advance party flyers in the early 1990s.. I wonder what happened to Debbie and Ian and whether they are still about?
