  • Fair play to the Fire Brigade! it doesn’t cost us extra in tax either, as they would have a unit there anyway to deal with cars/farms being torched which is much more usual for the weekend in these villages..

A SUFFOLK fire crew has rescued a group of helpless ducklings who had been trapped in a drain.

The RSPCA contacted the fire service to assist in helping some ducklings who had become caught in down a 5ft normal street drain in Fen Street, Nayland.
One fire crew from Nayland attended the incident and the ducklings were released by 10.34am.

Firefighters flushed the ducklings from the drain.

I would happily let some of my taxes go towards this. I however am not so happy when mp’s line there pockets or other’s with my tax.

its shocking how many people ask for the costs of stuff like this thanks to FOI laws and then berate the Council/Fire Brigade for spending the cash..

what they don’t realise is the Brigade have to train anyway and rescuing animals is a good training exercise for them – with each rescue the officers learn valuable skills for human rescues.. even this meant they can train running out the hose without the time pressures of a building on fire! its a smart move what they did, using the high volume hose they fill up the drain with more water than can drain away immediately – this causes the water level (and the ducklings) to rise and they can then get back to the surface level and waddle back to the mother 😉
