  • I hope this doesn’t sound racist (its not intended as such as I am not white!) but this school is in the South London area (where I am originally from!), where a high proportion of people are black – although its a mixed multicultural environment people of all races are highly influenced by the Black British community’s culture (which is often no bad thing within reason, consider rastamouse)

this sort of London community uses the term “rave” for urban music/grime which can include chart acts such as N-Dubz, Tinie Tempah, Tinchy Stryder, Wylie etc, which as they have got mainstream acceptance and often (somewhat hipocritically) distance themselves from drugs (normal folk actually associate whiney fuckers like Pete Docherty more with drugs these days) will be begrudgingly accepted in a school environment, as its small potatoes compared to the actual amount of gang activity, bullying etc you would get a in London high school, and its also against human rights to deny people their culture whatever race/colour they may be when there isn’t major evidence of a drug problem associated with that culture (at least within a school).

Bear in mind also if there was a drugs problem in the school the headteacher will want to cover it up anyway.

It’s a silent rave as well … one of these was held in a main centeral london train station (on more then one occasion i think). They are much more excepted as there’s no noise polution for a start and are seen more as a bit of harmless fun by the wider public.

we was thinking about holding one in our old school as it was going to be demolished (goodbye all of my school year memories) there was a very large sports hall and if we had the equipment and money we was going to pay off the security guard. but alas the school has gone to make way for more fucking houses.

I think its a great idea!

I mean most schools have now adopted the american (wanky) prom

and to the extent of kids being picked up in limo’s or hummers and all this grand entrance, bigger and better dress, day in the salon with hair, make up and nails etc etc trying to out do everyone else and show their wealth

My last year at school me and a few mates organised a party in aide of amnesty international and got in a rock band (was quite nice to have the power of the music choice LOL) and it was just fun – none of this bollox

all schools round here do proms but because local businesses such as limo and dress/suit hire are making money they think its a good thing 🙁

I suppose in ‘supporting your local business’ it may be ok…. but I just think its all a bit sad and glorifying the cluture of ‘look at me’ (and some of em are going for the jordan look ) and some of the girls….. my god they are 16 and look 20+

shit ….. I’m beginning to sound like my dad when he used to say I look like a hooker when I went out – it was called ‘grunge’ and ripped tie died fishnets with para boots and a pelmet looked fucking good!! lol!!!:laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at:

a lot of these businesses have only set up because of the prom/US culture – if there are loads of pest control businesses starting up it would make more rational sense to look at the source of contamination rather than celebrate the fact that new businesses are starting up. Also VOSA and old bill are unearthinng incidents where many of the limos aren’t even safe so kids are being put at danger…

thats your average teenage girl round here.. when you are a bloke what still looks a few decades younger sometimes you have to act shy just to keep out of trouble  (and there’s enough negative stereotypes of Asian blokes in this respect because of what has been going on up North..)

yes you defo right there GL – I presumed the businesses were already there..

and as we know… you defo have to be careful, my mate works in a YO and there are loads there for statutory rape and a few (appear) to have just not known and got duped…

they were openly discussing in the papers the rise in these businesses and how many make the bulk of their cash through the school prom season (as well as the issues re VOSA and how some of them are skimping on the maintenance of the limos)

these days if I offer young girls a line I make them rack up with their photocards the Council or their college hand out to them. As another stereotype of Asian blokes is that we are supposed to be good at maths I know if the year number on them is less than 1993 I am in the clear.

(only joking, I’m not really as bad as that) :laugh_at:
