Instant Personalisation on Facebook is here!

Do you remember that news back in April 2010 when Facebook announced it was going to be launching an ‘Instant Personalisation’ tool? A piece of software that would eventually personalise any website you visit… if, of course you’re logged on to Facebook at the same time?
Well, it’s finally here. It’s been rolled out and launched today. And apparently, unless you actually go into your own account and manually switch it off, you’ll just be automatically part of the Instant Personalisation experience. It’s like Facebook Connect in that it allows another website to use information from your own Facebook profile.

    How to turn it off

    1. Log into Facebook. In the top right hand corner, click Account, and then Privacy Settings.
    2. Under the heading Apps and websites, select Edit your settings.
    3. Under the heading Instant personalization, select Edit settings. You may see a popup called ‘Understanding instant personalization’. Just hit Close.
    4. At the very bottom of the page, simply untick the box labeled Enable instant personalization on partner websites. This will instantly turn off partner websites accessing your data.

If, however, the option is greyed out but still ticked, this means that Facebook has not yet activated instant personalization just yet. It takes time. Check back in a few hours, or the next day.

    Mines still grey, the fuckers.

I knew about this, fb giving companies peoples names addresses and phone numbers out now. Fucking evil shit.

Why are people putting their home address and phone number on FB anyway?

I can wholly understand why people think its evil but don’t forget that unlike this forum and many other genuine community online resources run by volunteers, FB is a commercial business. They gave away fuckloads of resources as a gamble in return for people giving away their private info to sell for marketing purposes.

Now with a permanent economic depression they have to make sure their gamble pays off to stay in business.

if you don’t want to be part of this the best option is not to use facebook – and not to expect to always get something for nothing – after all, everyone has other methods of communication.

fuckers mine was ticked maybe thats why i get so much bullshit emails . i do get sick of fb but it is entertaining how many people use it like a therapist

Facebook make so much back on advertising that they do not need to do this. Obviously it was completely predictable that they would, but they don’t need to. Also I don’t have my address or number on Facebook and not many other people I know do, but there are plenty of less technological people that may well have theirs on there.

i never put my home number or anything like that, i got A mobile number on there, it could be mine or i could’ve made it up

Cheers for the warning, will be keeping an eye on that, mines greyed out atm. Don’t trust fb – never have, but would rather not have to opt out of the whole idea completely -its good for keepiing up with the world. But it’s crazy trying to watch ur back with all them apps about!! Bit like google – i can run, but theres nowhere to hide! I usually get to a point where im fed up running – and start trying to get the best from it – whilst watching my back of course. Bloody tintanet grr!

I’ve never put details like that on before i’m not that stupid but it’s easy to say just not use facebook when pretty much everyone i meet these days relies on it for communication 🙁 fuck you failbook! Even the older folk are becoming addicted these days.

Also facebook is actually really good for acquiring a girlfriend lol

Oh the irony, I was going to quote Barnzy’s post but realised it was easier to ” like it” Yeah I always put the spam down to using hotmail. I s guess they are all corporate sell outs in the end 😀
