Has anyone noticed that people now go out only because they want to be seen to be going out by other people ?
Everyone seems to have a god damn digital camera to prove to themselves and to their little mates that they had a good time and they have a social life.
The funny thing about the people who insist on taking millions of pictures or trying to get into as many photoshoot opportunities as they can is that in real life away from the glare of a photo op they don’t actually seem to know what to do, that is … they don’t for one second look even slightly happy in what theyre doing. the amount of furtive glances and awkward looks coming off these little people on the dancefloor is unreal especially when they realise they’re your doing it better or your looking better than them. BUT these are the same ones who are itching to get their fake smiles recorded and uploaded onto facebook for the world to see.
Most clubs make me sick, and even if there is a good night on then it’s ruined by legions of insecure butt-hurt little wannabe’s who are as fake as a 3 pound coin.
Why god, oh why ? are we cursed with these numpties ?
It’s no wonder free parties exist but alas there are far too few of them.
So…………. am i alone in seeing it this way or is this an accurate estimation of the facts ?
ahaha, your post made me smile mate. I’m with you. I see loads of peoples pictures from their nights out. Makes me wonder whether they actually are partying or just snapping away all night. Either way there’s always someone who’s bought a camera with em!
Personally I detest having my picture taken, when I’m on one I show it on my face so the last thing I want is people seeing how fucked I look.
Welcome to the site also fella!
to be fair you can’t blame facebook for that, it started off in the late 1990s and got bigger with dontstayin.com although now the two are joined at the hip.
whilst I like taking photos (including at parties), I will take about 100 and use about 10 of them, remove all the bait/incriminating ones before they go public and if people are identifiable will always ask permission first and I try to get candid shots not people posing.
In fact I’ve got about 10 years worth of party pics stored on hard drive I’ve not shown anywhere because some of the folk from the crews are still active and there legally appears to be nothing stopping feds acting on 10 year old intelligence, even if they can’t nick someone for the event it helps build cases against people.
what will eventuallly put a stop to this is when the economic depression bites harder and more “frenemies” use FB to dob people in to their bosses when they have been out clubbing and pull a sickie on monday. there’s lots more of this going on than you may think, especially with townie crowds but there is so much crossover between townie clubbing and other dance music events now other than music there’s no difference..
I really don’t know why they do it either, OK it’s nice to get pics of your m8s aving a great time but if I was always dragging a camera or phone out of my pocket, I’d lose it for sure !
its linked in with a greater emphasis on looks and fashion which started at UK raves since the early 2000s (not sure what the score is in other nations).
I had some fucker trying to take my picture all night on Friday. didn’t like it cos I was properly rushing my tits off and the last thing I wanted was the whole world to see this.
I did relent in the end but only cos I had a fit bird on my arm. :weee:
i only like photos of me when i’m a total train wreck, like passed out, wide eyed and so on. i’m a bit weird like that. if it someone i don’t know with the camera they can leave me alone or pay for me stunning radiance lol
i agree with you.. like, some girls in my college year have taken pictures of eachother looking “drunk” and on the phone.. on the loo. it’s really weird. i think it’s because they wanna be seem as the party animal type. i think it’s pretty gross though, i would be ashamed for people to see me like that ^_^ i hate it when i’m out and every 5 minutes it’s like, “photo op!”.
on the other hand, parties are a great place to take some really amazing artistic photographs.
To be honest the answer is simple; don’t add your co-workers or boss on facebook, set your profile to private so people can’t see what you may or may not have been up to and make sure that if there are any pictures that you disagree with that you aren’t tagged in them.
Most of the pics of me from nights out are taken by people who are just snap-happy. Generally very few of them are posed unless we’re taking a group picture or something and many of them are (and I’ll admit I’m embarrassed by some of them) dancefloor action shots. I can fully understand the OP’s argument, it does seem like people are more concerned with being photographed having fun that ACTUALLY having fun.
cameras are bait at a party full stop

as long as faces aren’t shown and the location is kept secretive, then i think 1 or 2 pics wouldn’t hurt, providing the taker of said pics was smart with his photographing
I was at an outdoor scum tek party (way b4 all the shit recently that’s been kicking off) taking a few photo’s … not of individual people, just of the theams and various interesting things and the rigs ect. then some one who’d seen me taking photo’s vids (I noticed her watching me when filming the rig) started filming me dancing a little later when I was mashed and youtubed it lol.
Last time I take a camera to a rave. xD
i dunno, we get a fair few pics.. but it’s more memories really lol, i don’t care if anyone else looks at them or not.
as evil as facebook is etc… you gotta admit it’s a damn easy place to centralise everything and make it accessible to those you want it to be… and the pictures i put up there have nothing to hide… i dont take pics of illegal stuff for obvious reasons.
so yeah, we take a fair few pics. but there’s my reasoning. i guess some people have other motives
nothing wrong with taking pics for memories of you and your mates having a great night spangled together but taking non-stop photos of you and 9 lads in a club is crap. you want the pictures of you having a sick time… not your night out being spent havin ya picture taken.. if that makes any sense!
