With several threads on the board about changes to the squatting laws of various countries here’s sharing some old pictures (courtesy of an old friend at doei.org) from an old squat in Amsterdam which was a venue for regular trance parties for years until it was finally closed….

Nice pictures, good to get these places well documented so they do not get forgotten into the abyss of history.
thats a palace compared to most English squats! not just the size of the building, but the way its been well looked after and kept clean and bright….
Used to be the Belgian embassy apparently… 🙂
I guess also the Dutch were (and still are) good at using the concepts of Brutalist architecture without making the building too bad inside! But English squatters would have busted at least one if not all of the glass windows, and sprayed crap or even offensive graffiti on every corner rather than make those wonderful backdrops..
That said, the accompanying article may help to explain why a decade later even the Dutch squatters lost the popular consensus in NL which had previously permitted their existence.. however I remember those days in England, perhaps we had it too good back then?
