After 23 yrs in the Metropolitan Police, Simon left after receiving a `not guilty` verdict on an assault charge after a fight at a nightclub with another off duty officer. He then became obsessed with money and material things, so entered into a life of crime, but after being `ripped off` for a large amount of money by his knew found colleagues, he was left the lowest he had been in his life, facing prison, or even death. Here he tells how he came back from the brink:

bible bashing ex bent copper… really really interesting stuff, you got anymore?

Wrong he is not an ex bent copper. He started out as a football hooligan then reformed and became a police officer. He then became a criminal after he left the force when he fell in with a gang of drug dealers. He finally joined a team called Tough Talk which is a ministry team made up of ex hard men : Welcome to Tough Talk

yeah really riverting stuff, like i said. love the bit where he is preaching about christianity, really good

    TOUGH TALK MISSION STATEMENT
Tough Talk is a registered charity dedicated to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in an informal way that appeals to people who would not normally go to a church meeting. Tough Talk is made up of a group of men with backgrounds of ex-bouncers, ex-football hooligans and ex-East End hard men who have turned their backs on their past. Many of the team are very keen powerlifters. All the team feel that having let God into their lives, they now have an urgent need to share their experiences with the hope of helping others. They have found that the message of hope in Jesus Christ reaches people from all backgrounds and age groups. The team travel throughout the UK, Europe and worldwide performing powerlifting demonstrations as a backdrop to telling their amazing stories. In this way, the Christian faith is presented to people who would not otherwise come into contact with the Word of God. Tough Talk, as a charity, is financed through donations, regular gifts and from the sale of books, DVDs and videos. All the money is channelled back into the work of the organisation, funding many events and missions

    words fail me tbh.

How about this then, a church in London with over 80,000 fans on Facebook! Hillsong Church London | Facebook
And yet they say that christianity is dead.

who says christianity is dead? more to the point who cares?

Well I think it shows there are the stirrings of a massive christian revival after many many years of steep decline. By the way the Hillsong church band in Australia where the Hillsong church originated has got an incredible, 1,865,167 fans on Facebook see this: hillsong united | Facebook Here is their biggest hit:

i would rather stick a knife repeatedly into my brain than listen to one second of that horendeous shit.

Incidentally the band was formed way back in 1983 from the church’s youth group who started off by writting the odd song for the worship service. They had many line up changes over the years but were mostly always made up of youngsters straight out of school. Their early songs were very sloppy and far from the proffesionally polished material they have produced over the last few years. There is a documentary on the band here: YouTube – Hillsong United Documentary – 1/3

christians always say a revival is around the corner, they did a decade a go when I was a christian

fact is that the percentage of the population that is a practicing christian is steadily in decline with no sign of change. I attribute this to the inability of the religion to evolve as society evolves – too many of the teachings are incompatible with modern life (tolerance especially) and there is a massive inflexibility in the teachings (due mainly to the belief that the bible as 100% ‘the word of god’). This will ultimately cause the religion to stagnate and shrink. That which does not adapt will die.

As fundamentalist religion declines general spirituality seems to be on the rise. I predict christianity will be replaced by new age beliefs and eastern philosophies if it doesnt let go of all the outdated concepts. If you want a revival, time for a shake-up of your principles.

Rubbish! Ever heard of the New Frontiers demonination for example? They only started in 1980 with a handful of people in Seaford near Brighton and now they have got hundreds of churches across the country. One of the biggest success stories is the Hillsong church in London which was planted by the Hillsong Australia church in 2000 and now has a weekly attendence of over 8000. It has now planted several other churches around Britain. Then there is the success of the Alpha Course which has grown not just nationwide but world wide with millions of people attending. It is an introduction course to Christianity for agnostics and athiests. It started at Holy Trinity Brompton in London a church which has also bucked the trend growing to 1000 by 1981 and several thousand today, and has planted many churches which have become successful at gaining large congregations.

As for christians not modernising ever heard of websites like this: Liberated Christians Polyamory, Swing, Biblical, Sybian Cyber Center There are millions of liberal and progressive christians around today. For example most churches now teach that hell simply means separation from God rather than a firey place where people are tortured for ever. And only a small percentage of christians today believe that the Bible is 100% true.

Do you just go round different forums posting the same articles then, Angus? Pretty sure you posted this on SJ

Although all your post go on about the same shit, so it’s hard to differentiate.

By the way this is interesting about the christian revival in muslim countries: YouTube – Christian Revival in the Muslim World – Millions to Christ
