A film review: ‘Gasland’ » Transition Culture

ironically here in England there is very little obvious attempt to silence a film like this – in reality modern England is no worse for artistic freedom than any other EU country – the problem is people avoid films with “bad news” – in mainstream cinéma and even the alternative cinéma people would rather watch romantic comedies/farces or macho crime films or Harry Potter (every British movie in the last few years being something like this)

That said, I expect I can also get both my Transition Group and the local Film Theatre to show this (if they have not done so already!) – and also this weekend my friends were talking about setting up a outdoor cinéma at their large shared house for the neighbours to watch so there is another opportunity..

another heads up is that they are trying this fracking in the North of England. I think it is near Blackpool. Unfortunately the sheer amount of investment this foolish scheme is bringing in is getting the locals onside, as money talks.

Bear in mind also that health and safety regulations with gas are way stronger in England so stuff like being able to set the tap water alight due to gas getting into the pipework simply wouldn’t happen, as in our country one gas man can get a entire street cut off the gas if he can prove a immediately dangerous situation. This unfortunately means the pro-gas lot can claim “the things in that film can’t happen”. OK the most spectacular things won’t, but this doesn’t mean that its not bad for the environment.

But the only solution here is to use less energy!
