These two artists (who are based in Germany in spite of their very Scandinavian names) built a small solar powered LED lamp (inspired by some other installations they did).
In Europe you can buy it for €20 (this is cheap for a designer European lamp), and it can be a reading lamp, a hand lantern or you can fix it to your bicycle. Bear in mind in many European nations the street lamps are shut off after midnight to save electricity. this means if you like to stay up late but turn off lights in unused rooms that without easy access to a torch or lantern, it is surprisingly easy to fall down the stairs (nearly done so a few times).
Better still, it is being sold at an affordable price for those in developing nations so they needn’t expose their kids to paraffin lamps what give off fumes and can set fires.
