Its not uncommon for older men facing midlife crisis to do this or even far worse things – a caution is an appropriate penalty for a non violent crime and he is seeking treatment for mental health issues, but it is also in the public interest to report this (though very unusual for a caution to be mentioned in the press) due to his public image plus being a prominent businessman in SE England (but also involved in a numebr of business failures which affect others ) who has also given support to the Conservative party and still raises money for them.
TV chef Antony Worrall Thompson said he has “let down” his family after being cautioned by police for shoplifting and said he will “seek treatment”.
Police arrested the 60-year-old at the Tesco store in Reading Road, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, on Friday.
Worrall Thompson, from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, was questioned and given a formal caution.
He apologised for his “stupid and irresponsible actions” and said he hoped he could “make amends”.
