nope this isn’t a thread about M-cat :laugh_at::laugh_at:
but MY cat
he’s been pretty much mute since we had him, used to open his mouth and nothing came out.. :crazy_diz
(which was lush after living with our friends very very very ‘chatty’ cats!! esp at 5-6am!!)
Then he learnt to sort of ‘squeek’
after we got back from shambles he seems to have learnt to meow and its totally cute!!!
has he been associating with other cats, especially siamese and other noisy breeds? these often teach quieter cats to meow, as the quiet cats see the noisy ones getting food/attention..
I dont think so – unless you call getting ‘your arse kicked’ associating – there are loads (!!!) of cats round here,
he is the ‘runt’ of the litter – all others bar one died, the older sister they refused to sell (they were given a kitten without knowing she was pregnant – we tried all the cat rescue places for months to no avail ) as she shit and pissed everywhere (but was equally as gorgeous …)
so he is tiny and Marcus’s mum recons the cat is retarded / genetically fucked in the cat version of humans (psych nurse of the 60’s :P)
the cats round here are all moggies, not seen a pedigree for 3 streets (not a affluent area) but huge!!! so he is often running in the back door away rather than standing up fr himself like other cats I’ve known
our mates cats (I think ) were Burmese, really muscley grey beautifully graceful, but so bloody chatty, I fell in love with a little black one at battersy , he was silent – but they said when he got his confidence back he’d be well chatty so I decided against him, but Jaspey I thought would just meow, but he hasnt at all til now …..
when we had two the “quiet” one meowed when he was a kitten, then stopped for a bit, then started again after he saw the noisy one doing it…
wildcats normally lose their meow after they reach maturity, but that was the first I’d seen of a cat starting to meow again..
They do it through loneliness I recon (or because no one’s there to feed them). The cat downstairs meow’s constantly for hours as soon as they get home after a day out at work and coming back late. It’s pretty quite most days until they get back. It’s like they asking where the hell u been?!?!?! Our semi adopted cat of next doors will only ever mew on occasions, and only ever when it’s either been left out all night and it see’s you or it’s got caught out in the rain and you let him in. Never for food funnily enough. I’m sure all cats are diferant and mew for different reasons though.
Cool, next step is to get him learning a foreign language, like this:
I dont think he was too lonely whilst we were away as our ex housemate moved back in
It does seem more of a learning thing for him at the mo, as it sounds as if he is ‘leanring’ to do it properly! as the squeek sounds to be forming meow’s – if that makes sense, and it is mainly when he either wants to go out, food or attention so its defo a demand thing.
(he has a cat flap but its so much better having a human open the door :P)
but maybe I am using a human brain to work out an animal and thats never a good thing

this was probably learned as it got a reaction from the housemate.
the noisy cats daftfader mentions are probably Oriental breeds which meow to greet humans when they return from work. they know the humans are coming by listening for sound signatures of cars, bikes or footsteps which they can use to uniquely identify certain humans.

Cats are amazing!

yes I often get met at the door, but mainly I think he wants food 🙂
and our (ex) housemate has gone experimental psychology and got a first and is now trying to tell me he taught Jasper to meow!! ha ha!! (only after I told him that he’s started, and he said he didnt meow when he was there)
but yep, animals are amazing – wtch this 😥

not that I have turned in to mad cat woman who watches youtube clips of cute fluffy kittens or anything……… 😉
the dog also does the same trick by listening for sound signatures and often greets its owner by listening out for their approach , but pets also use other cues to recognise their owners as they will of course change their transport methods… One cat I befriended still recognised me between 2006-2011 even though I upgraded my bike 3 times during this period, most recently to an e-bike, at first she backed off from the strange noise it made then realised it was me….
Our cat is up for grabs. She meows at 5am every morning non stop go get fed (or whenever the sun comes up). We squirted her with a water skoosher to shut her up but all that does it make her meow from further down the hall. She meows when I come up – hears the car coming up the drive and greets us at the door. She meows after doing a shite (more of a howl to let us know). She meows when she’s bored. She meows when I give attention to the mrs out of jealousy. Basically she meows allot. She’s a not an oretial – she’s a ginger cross with a wooden leg (after an accident).
If anyone is interested please PM.
meow back at it. the noisy cat (witte kat) would do this at 05:00, sometimes even barging my door open, and I’d give him a low pitched warning meow/growl (like a annoyed siamese). he would then do one of two things – either shut up and go to sleep at the foot of my bed and wake up at a more civilised hour, or try to wake up my sister and get fed (sometimes a combination of both).
iOne of my cats talks back to you lol
Say anything to him and he stands on his back legs, paws in the air meowing back it you while purring his head off. Quite funny cause the more stern you say something, the louder he’ll respond to you!
To be fair, we have had him since he was VERY little, too little to be away from mum. So he’s got a real attachment to us, and I reckon he thinks he’s a person not a cat…….
