Breeding pair of black swans, €300. They have already produced cygnets 4 times.

I thought they were a EU protected species and you couldn’t tjust randomly buy them but its allowed in Friesland. If we had a bigger pond at work and it wouldn’t cost about another €300 and fuckloads of paperwork and vet/quarantine fees (I don’t think you can bring them in on PETS scheme 😉 that actually seems quite tempting..

I can understand that, with the fens and such….but they’re bird and birds fly so to me that says they ain’t gonna stick about if it ain’t to their liking, unless they’ve had there wings clipped (which is pretty wrong imo)

Thats the beauty of them, they kinda work like guard dogs……… if you own a dog and it hurts someone you are held liable, but swans are wild animals therefor you can not be held liable for their actions

Also if your forget to do the shopping……. roast swan for Sunday dinner, yum yum

Geese are already used for guarding purposes all across Europe.

Its not uncommon for the Dutch to keep exotic poultry as a hobby, they have about 100 different kinds of chickens I have never heard of and an entire forum the size of PartyVibe devoted mostly to the keeping of them.

I’ve since worked out the reason folk are allowed to buy and sell black swans more easily is because these are a foreign species and not classed as protected like other European species are. Mind you a horse (which looked like a fairly decent one) is only €500 from the website and more practical to get over here if it has the passport. but you might have to re-train it to trot on the other side of the road :laugh_at:
