There have been a number of violent crimes committed by non Muslims (including white men!) using the niqab and other such garments as a disguise. This is of course also a big problem for security of businesses in areas with a large Muslim population especially jewellers as they often get robbed this way. Some businesses actually refuse entry to people wearing such clothes but there are obvious human rights and legal issues plus it could be turning down a rich potential customer.

Even the victim herself thought it was odd for a Muslim woman to be out on her own. TBH on my estate (where there are very few Muslims) most women don’t go out on their own since the streetlights get switched off after midnight, even though there have been comparatively few crimes against them since the change.

The Police are (quite wisely) keeping an open mind and to be fair they are doing their job well and on top of violent extremist behaviour of all kinds at the moment, even when it happens those doing it get arrested quickly enough.

Unfortunately I would suspect a personal or professional dispute, competition to become a model or get a media job is ruthless, especially on urban estate populations. I can remember when urban music was a big thing in the mid 2000s the amount of artists who were getting killed by jealous haters was a shocking amount. A friend of mine actually quit his music production when he became a dad and went back to his day job in a bank as he felt it was safer!

in a case like this (especially in the wake of the phone hacking scandal) the papers have to work closely with metpol and the victims family (there was a delay of some days before this went to the press).

TBH I don’t think they are trying to imply anything – where the victim worked and the description of the attacker are perfectly legitimate pieces of evidence, providing an outline direction of travel of both attacker and victim. Its possible that someone at an Asian fashion place in London may have sold a niqab to an “odd” customer, or an Asian woman may have had one stolen from a washing line or laundry basket and they didn’t think anything of it until now.

This isn’t an easy case as nothing is clear cut – for all the hysteria its a extremely rare crime in modern London (todays health and safety culture means its not that easy to get hold of harsh chemicals even legitmately), rarer still for this to be a random attack, and the victim appears to be in a steady loving relationship with her boyfriend and few known enemies.
