Ok I want all of you to know i am Not a animal hater… But it REally pisses me off when i see Stray animals on the street… I personally will not own an animal… only bc I do not want to take care of something when i have a heard time taking care of myself. So the way i see it i am doing the world a favor…But i fucking cant stand it when i see sick dogs and cats on the streets bc someone wanted an animal but didnt take care of it…. I dont know why it pisses me off like it does but I just makes me want to punch a cunt….. ANyone else feel the same or is it just me
I’m not sure how bad the stray animal situation is where you’re situated but try going somewhere like Spain or Greece. The number of stray dogs almost outnumbers the number of people living in the country. Especially in Spain where they are largely of Catholic faith so they believe animals have no souls and the ones kept as pets are often in worse nick than the ones on the street. People will keep horses in their basement with no natural light or time spent outside, it’s fucking disgusting!
Uggg THat is sooo fucking wrong…. I DO NOT give a shit if they have no souls… ITs about fucking keeping shit clean… I mean people die here in the us from hitting animals on highways …. SPain should be blown of the fucking map horses in the basement…. wtf….
Yeah it’s all kinds of wrong. I’d have to say Spain has a worse track record on animal rights than China does on human rights. To them they’re just a commodity like a pair of shoes, once it’s getting knackered or no longer has use throw it out onto the streets or kill it and get a new one.
I’m too tired and just generally mentally dead so I can’t come up with anything witty so i’ll just get straight to the point. Humans are cunts.
Not all Catholics think animals have no souls (I was baptised as one) [1], even in my Catholic schools in the 1980s they taught us that God told us to look after all the creatures and there was a lot of nature education (though they tended not to do the “birds and bees” quite as much).
TBH the lack of animal welfare in ES and GR is much more likely because the poor blighters are all skint and on the verge of civil war yet again! Its a big difference even across Europe. I can’t actually remember the last time I encountered a genuinely stray/lost creature and I am always travelling between urban and rural areas.
I did find a cow in the country roads once whilst cycling so I asked some old people who were looking at it whether I should call 999/112 (like 911) or anyone else had (so the emergency services can make sure it does not get onto the faster town highways) but they told me the farmer was their friend and they had already called him on his mobile.
If I see a wandering dog usually its owner is nearby. In some mainland Northern European countries as well as free healthcare for people they have animal ambulances (part funded by donations and the council) and literally any roaming creature is picked up and taken to the vet (many pets have ID chips and their owners can be traced).
There is a “crazy cat couple” by me who get given a van by the animal charity and catch and rehome all the stray cats and kittens. They used to have a halfway house for cats but the adults go elsewhere and they only keep kittens now – the adult cats clawed a hole in the cat man’s shed, broke out and terrorised all the other cats in the estate and trashed people gardens. Cats usually do this sort of stuff at night, and they would return back through the hole they made so they would get fed in the morning.
so it took a while for the neighbourhood safety team and the Council (along with the cat man and his wife) to work out what had happened, as of course they count the cats at feeding time and didn’t realise any were missing :laugh_at:
[1] A Catholic, not an animal though I have been known to meow with cats and howl with dogs, you can do this in Northern Europe, it is not viewed as that abnormal :laugh_at:

I have to disagree with this as I used to frequently go to Spain on holidays in the 90s when the tourism was still keeping the countries economy afloat and the situation was very much the same as it is now.

the economy was never that “afloat” in those countries, nor were they that democratic even during the good times. OK people had “jobs” but it was all though corruption and overinflation of the headcounts needed. In any case money just poured out of these countries into safer investments in Northern Europe and the richer local people themselves themselves did it (hence todays problems with the Eurozone).
There have been problems brewing up in Southern European nations since before WW II, Spain wasn’t even a democratic nation within my living memory. When the fascists ran out of power and energy (not even sure if they were defeated as such) they were forgiven and unpunished and now they are taking that country back to the dark times again.
The point I am making is that religion is used here as an excuse, same as how some people try and excuse having a war and blowing up others because of their religion. (ironically local spanish criminals sold the Muslim terrorists the explosives required for the Madrid bombing and that was when the economy was in a better state).
The real reason is that certain people simply want to have a position of power and dominance or are fighting a resource war. The way the Spanish treat their immigrants from poorer countries is equally bad as the animal rights issues, similar things happening in Greece with support for hard right wing organisations and direct action against immigrants in the streets (animal rights and human rights are interlinked).
Honestly I really dont CAre what the Economy is like or whether they do it becaus of their bliefs. These are all just excuses. I Just simpley cannot stand the fact that they are Not taking care of the animals someone wanted….I just cant stand it when people cant take care of their responsibilities… IF they cant take care of them dont get the fucking animal its as simple as that.. Humans are cunts and They dont think about anything but themselves most of the time,, I just think the strays should be put down and the problems would eventually burn out
The reason you may be seeing more strays unfortunately is linked to the economy.
Stray animals have been a problem for centuries (even more so when livestock keeping was more widespread), even if you don’t have the expensive mainland European shelter networks there was a stray animal catcher etc and a local pound (and a lot of dogs especially still are caught and put down).
but with the budget cuts across many countries the animal control staff have been downsized or laid off and there is no one to catch the strays!

I haven’t ever seen a stray animal in England I don’t think.
where you live if they can escape being knocked down on the roads they are liable to be caught and taken to a vet or shelter – TBH the same applies for most relatively affluent areas of Southern and Eastern England.
As cats are not confined to houses and can go semi feral a lot easier its not always easy to work out if a cat is a stray or a pet, and a roaming dog is usually noticed and caught.
The only place I’ve seen roaming strays is in Malaysia and even there they are starting to capture and rehome them.

I thought that would be the case, but i’ve seen a lot of roadkill and even a beheaded bird (no idea how that happened.. the head was no where to be seen and it was a clean cut..) and these have all stayed on the roads for a couple of days but never seen a cat/dog..

I feel as if thats an excuse… IF you cant afford an animal take it to a god damn shelter…. REsponibilites dont end bc you cant SUpply a life for the animal… Sorry i am not taking this out on you.. i understand people can catch them and but still people hit dogs and cats and shit all the time… I think its the animals owner who should take them to the shelter… bc 9 times out of 10 the animals die before they are picked up. In japan When you own an animal they insert a chip into the animals neck so if they drop them off somewhere or if they run away . the pound will take them and find the owner and THen they charge them with either neglect or a fine bc they didnt try to find the dog themselves

You need the animal shelters in the first place and they need to have space to keep them, that requires a healthy economy, and more community spirit (which also means folk tend not to let creatures stray anyway). I was reading today a blog about a really impressive animal shelter in the Netherlands (TBH it is near enough a zoo, they have that many animals looked after there) but this only works because their agricultural economy in that area is still doing well and folk can afford to donate their time and resources. Must be tens of thousands of Euros spent on the whole place….
Even if you have chips for pets the data can be incorrect or out of date (friends work in or with the local shelters here and this causes a problem when they want to get the animals back to their owners). The Japanese aren’t exactly poor these days and their culture (like many Asians) is to trust Government and authority a lot more than Americans or British so they tend to obey rules. They are strict about particularly what dogs you can and cannot keep and where because some Japanese dogs are very fierce. Even their cats seem to behave themselves and stay where they should be!
In other Asian countries you do not let your dog or other pet stray as some folk are that poor and hungry if you do it even if doesn’t get knocked down it becomes someones dinner!
Some escapes are caused by deliberate breaches of fences etc, where I live some scumbag deliberately let horses onto the A14 (this is a fast highway where you drive at 100 km/h) and a young lad crashed his car into them and he and two horses were killed. The Police aren’t even sure yet why the horses were let out…
