Good thing they have not yet got to SE Asia, the normal ones are bad enough. My mum regularly goes back to Malaysia for several months during the UK winter and lives in a developed suburban area, no different from Stowmarket in UK or Haren or Winschoten in NL, although way hotter. Anyway giant snails got into indoor the letter box and ate up a great amount of the mail (to the point she told me not to bother sending a mothers day card as that would only get devoured by these molluscs).
I think she got the janitor from the block to deal with them in the end (they are used to dealing with all manner of creatures up to and including deadly snakes and lizards as big as cats).
