I don’t know how many of you live in Brighton or down South in the UK, but is it just me or does everywhere these days in Brighton just play the same old shit!
To me now it’s just shitty labeled nights called milk, lolli pop, chocolate factory, or some other pathetic name and just plays chart music, hip hop, rnb, dubstep.
They are all full of pretentious kids posing taking pictures of themselves and wankers (same thing really).
No matter where I look I just can’t find anything decent any more..
Only way I can find something decent is if I venture up to London, but that’s a mission.
All I want is some House or Trance :bounce_flor something. None of this pop chart shit.
Anyone else feel the same way?
Ummm what? Brighton has one of the best music scenes in the country and clubs have a wide variety of EDM. (volks, digital, concorde2, coalition)
Not to mention gigs (the dome, brighton centre)
Maybe you should do a google search.
Non of those club names you have listed exist to my knowledge…or maybe you are a spammer and I need to wait for a goose edit :p
A spammer without s link. How sad, like a dog with out a bone.
the guy is legit and has a point to be fair. what he is mentioning is a load of themed nights in a townie club (which he doesn’t name).
Of course there are good underground clubs in Brighton but there are a lot of promoters what don’t put in the effort to get new punters outside their circle of friends (this isn’t a problem unique to Brighton).
I had a look myself and all I could find was drum and bass events and some indie gigs. Other flyers just have the DJ names and no indication of what genres are played there.
For someone who may have just moved into an area and perhaps doesn’t have as much free time to explore the local music scene due to work/education commitments this doesn’t give a lot of useful information.
Trance and house are also currently neglected in the south of the UK outside London as they are seen as too “commercial” for the trendier EDM promoters but too “druggy” for mainstream venues.
You’re obviously not too up on the Brighton scene man, but I’m guessing most of the nights you’re talking about are ones down West Street. If so, that’s the wrong place to go looking – that’s just crappy commercial inghts down there. As Izbeck suggested, check out Digital, Audio, Coalition, The Volks and Concorde 2. Just as a small sample, this weekend down the Volks, there’s an Old Skool night with Easygroove and Ramos tomorrow (fri) and a DnB night on Saturday – and that’s just one venue. Go check some of those places out man, you’ll enjoy it a damn sight more than West Street!

Theres pretty much an event poster every few 100 feet advertising some sort of event from dnb nights to something very neiche like ’90s chiptune music meets 40s soul night’
Theres a whole row of clubs dedicated to EDM and only one of those clubs plays pop music and thats only on every monday night.
But does he actually live in the city, or perhaps in a suburban area? Even then what I remember from living in London was that there are so many flyposters there is often “event overload”.
Some place called the H-bar apears to play house and trance. it took a bit more searching and detective work to find it compared to currently “trendier” genres (as these genres are often associated with older people). I have no idea how good it is but they seem to have attracted some of the better known DJs.

That’s exactly what I mean.
I’m not a spammer without a link, I am a real person, I have lived in Brighton, well, Hove for the past 12 years.
I’m not talking about just West Street, which is just all commercial, I’m talking about the ones you also mentioned, Coalition, Digital, Audio, I go to all of those and it’s always same old same old commercial house, hip hip etc.
Granted, very rarely digital does pull out some decent events, they’ve got Carl Cox playing there tonight, not really my things, but still good.
Those nights I mentioned were not actual nights lol, just similar named ones to what currently is hosted at many of the clubs.
With reference to H-Bar, I’ve been there and it was decent actually, was playing DnB when I last went and a little bit of house, but this is what I mean it’s a mission going on Google and snooping out good nights now.
The only stuff that is properly premoted is the commercial nights and big names in the likes of Coalition, Digital, Audio. The rest is just DJ names which you’ve never heard of. It shouldn’t be that hard to find what you’re looking for without having to be “in the know”
The Honey Club about 6-7 years ago played a lot of House and Trance, but I don’t see any other clubs now. And the ones that do you can never find, well I cant anyway 🙁
It just seems to me, surely I can’t be the only one that wants house and trance in Brighton and I just can’t find any. If anyone knows any can you link it or something? Would love to go out this weekend

Jesus Christ! I’ve just had a look at what’s on at the Honey Club this weekend – I haven’t been there in a few years and having seen the shit they’re now playing, I ain’t gonna be going there any time soon!
Have just checked the H-Bar for this weekend too and they’ve got John 00 Fleming playing there on Saturday night, reckon that might fit the bill for ya Revo!
Yes but just because you cant find any specific genre nights it doesn’t make everything in comparison shit or commercial.
– also not very nice declaring the UK as ‘a joke’ 0.o
I know of a few psytrance nights going on regularly and also a few house nights this month happening.
I saw that as well in the H-bar, seems like a good night and better priced than London or even the North.
I do think looking from the outside that because Brighton is currently a more tolerant area for EDM events some promoters are resting on their laurels. The reason I say this is because thats exactly what happened in Ipswich until 2006 when a number of events on our nightlife which were ultimately blamed on “drug friendly” venues led to zero tolerance. Ipswich and Brighton have a lot of similarities TBH, OK Brighton is seen as a bit more “intellectual” and no longer has as much light industries and maritime industry which is why a bit more hedonism is endured but who knows what might happen in the future…

I reckon Eastbourne will invade Brighton and annex it into a combined Wrinkly-Crusty-Retirement Zone and 50 years from now all the inhabitants will be shuffling their Zimmerframes to the same tunes being played now.

Sorry man I meant clubbing in Brighton is a joke, not United Kingdom. I assumed this was an international forum so wrote is as Brighton, United Kingdom. I am English 😛

Yeah I’m considering going actually, it’s either that or scoot up to London to go to Ministry of Sound or Club 414 or something
