  • Pity. I was hoping all the soccer hooligans would get pissed off and go on a rampage because they couldn’t get free footy coverage.

    Still, win some, lose some.

Good! Up yours Sepp Blatter! I love football, but I fucking hate FIFA’s corrupt, untouchable nature – they think they’re above the law and that they rule the world. Sadly, the way that countries happily just open wide and get shafted by them in the run-up to a World Cup just reinforces their belief that they are!

I’m not even a great fan of football (or that big a sports fan) but strongly believe in public service broadcasting and that major sports events should be shown on free to air media

what is saddest is that is presumably the organisation which is supposed to stand up for the long term interests of the sport. Stopping especially kids and young people from seeing the sport played at a professional level (as in times of economic depression not all families can afford subscription TV channels but most can still afford a terrestrial TV set) for short term financial gain is not the correct way to go about this…

Damn straight dude, just because the members of FIFA’s executive committee are rich beyond their wildest dreams doesn’t mean that everyone is – and the fact that it’s the most popular sport on the planet should mean that the showpiece events such as the World Cup should be freely available to anyone in the world who has a tv! Makes sense to everyone except the decision makers, who’d happily trade all the money they have for a bit more, cunts!

One of the last projects a friend of mine worked on at his old job (before retiring and setting up a farm with his wife) was making sure that they could use every last bit of bandwidth of every copper, fibre and coax cable from the stadium to get the 2012 Olympics out to the World, and the BBC and foreign broadcasters shared all these resources so every public broadcaster in the world could get London 2012 shown in their country.

Of course it was run as a commercial venture and the broadcasters had to pay BT for the facilities but the idea of this project was clearly to make the cost of delivering this event to viewers as affordable as possible and making best use of technology (the Japanese and Chinese broadcasters turned up with a 4K pixels super HD camera they had been working on as a joint project).

Consider also that for a few weeks in 2012 a great deal of the whole world’s telly was being sourced from outer London (not W1 where they are geared up for it) for just a few weeks and this all must be done without breaking the existing telephones, internet and any other telecoms services in this area. Of course the way we achieved it was your typical British string and gaffer tape methods but ingenious (such as using the spare capacity on a HD coax cable to provide the voice comms and emails/real time chat that the broadcasters need rather than providing loads of extra circuits)

He isnt’ as much of a sports fan either but said it was one of the few worthwhile projects he had been involved in his last few years in that job.

Funny how like G-tek said football is the most popular sport in the world. Most people even if you’re no good at it don’t mind having a kick around as a social activity at least, it unites people.

Yet FIFA want to employ money (a tool for dividing people) alongside this uniting activity. I don’t understand

Me neither mate, I’m just amazed FIFA haven’t tried to start placing a tax on anybody having a kickabout in the park yet!

Ahahahaha, what a mental deluded fool! There’s more chance of wanking becoming an Olympic sport than there is of Bulletball doing so!
