I just about remember reading about them in Electronics and Wireless World in 1987 these dudes had made blue LEDs; they appeared on the market in the 1990s but were something like £8 per unit; it was a sign of extra “bling” to get a Japanese hi fi with blue LED indicators.
Today strong bright LEDs of all colours are that cheap if I am running them on 12V its not a big extra cost to add a extra LED and reduce the limiter resistor when you take into account the time/effort of soldering the assembly…
If anything these profs should have got the prize years ago…
