  • I have never been 100% sure what Electronica actually is (EDM for hipsters with wierd beat patterns?) but the Council actually licensed an event playing this in a disused car park on the TENS scheme. It was only licensed until 05:00 but there weren’t loads of security conditions, I’ve been reading the Licensing documents for it. I was even considering attending it but forgot the date it was happening as it wasn’t that widely publicised on the dance music scene even though it was in the local papers..

what is more important though is that it shows that putting on legal events is still possible even in what is claimed to be the heaviest “zero tolerance” area of the UK….

    Cool man, good news. 🙂

This is good news. Have you heard about the Derelicht – Exploration Into Electronic Arts events that have been going on in Ipswich? I haven’t gone to one yet but i feel like i should, they look pretty amazing. Full funktion 1 rigs, lighting, decor in these disused derelict buildings and warehouses. The music seems quite chilled out as well and seems like a nice night. (I’ve been speaking to the organiser a lot on facebook). Surprises me they get the go ahead from the council each time they want to do an event (i believe they have done 2) even for quite crazy locations eg. the one on the 27th of july is on a former USAF cold war jet engine test facility!

thats the one! I was looking at it more from the legal/licensing POV to try and work out how he managed to get licensed, though to be fair the councils aren’t as bad as they are made out to be for licensing. I think the fact the organiser is nearly as old as myself and has a normal 9-5 day job outside the music scene counts a lot in his favour.

my younger friends are not bad people but their events did often result in unwanted incidents such as fights or the Ambulance being deployed and that really baits them up even if they are licensed, especially as the Ambulance Service here is underresourced as it is.
