I have gone through 3 different desktop recorders and in just a few days because they don’t work. One doesn’t allow you to record sound so I couldn’t actually use for anything good like I wanted. The second one was poor quality. The 3rd recorded the first 10 seconds then stopped and only recorded sound playing with a frozen frame. (Sorry for the mouthful)

Anyone know of any good recording software that will work for PC gaming? Or does anyone know how to use OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) who could give me tips. If it helps I’m going to be recording a Minecraft Survival series (just gaming though, no voice)

I kind of forgot to try Fraps. I will try this when I get home today. Hopefully it works way better than the others (it should, I think most of the people I watch on youtube use it). Thank you! 🙂

hope it works well. I wonder if it works with all apps? I could do with something like this myself for when I receive an interesting signal on my SDR (software defined radio receiver) and I want to show folk the sound and the displays of spectrum analyser/IF etc which need to be at least 25fps recording. I was trying to record the Belgium radio service that way and had all the same problems as Tori.

Fraps is what most people use, there’s also Bandicam what I know a few people that use. If you own a Nvidia graphics card however, (I think you need a relatively new one though) you can use Shadow Play, a bit of software that comes free with the drivers, and it’s by far the best game recording software I’ve used.

unfortunately I only use either a laptop with a built in Geforce for this equipment and couldn’t find the app. In any case I can’t upload what I was listening to yesterday as it was a UK pirate broadcaster and its ilegal and can get it shut down quicker by Ofcom (Communications Ministry). Good clear signal though and they even had RDS display; although they are only transmitting mono. There was a live DJ last night but he seemed to be based on a internet station 200 km away; most of the time its non stop music without any ident than the RDS.

Might “tally ho” it out of curiosity as it seems nearby and if they are a friendly bunch give them a signal report but warn them to be careful as ICR-FM is on investigation (like all the other community broadcasters) so the Ofcom man is more liable to be monitoring stuff…

I didn’t know Fraps costed anything and the free version only allows you to record 30 seconds. I used bandicam a few days ago and it works fine (it’s the free version so it has a water mark) but still have to upload the video.
