Unfortunately this area is middle class, affluent (which might be why you moved there especially if for work/education) but quite socially conservative.
Of course there must be some drugs around (in some parts of DE up to 15 grams of cannabis is just “small posession”) but users do not brag about doing them and are very discreet and paranoid about Polizei. It is also still a fairly strong Catholic area (which means you will still find drugs but people will do them more stealthily).
On another forum I use (similar to this one but with more older hippies, some of my parents generation) there used to be this middle aged folk singer always complaining about the lack of easily available drugs in that area.
There is also a famous 1980s Schlager song by Cora where she sings (in German) about travelling to Amsterdam as its more fun there – in the music video when she is singing about elves and good fairies, it shows some random woman injecting harddrugs on the Dutch metro/S-Bahn :laugh_at:
TBH I expect you would need to learn some German and befriend some locals to find anythinig. There is a “banana-shaped nightlife zone” in one part but it seems to be mostly centred around Bier, Wein und Schlager-Muzik.
