To be fair sex pests and bullies in this region do get nicked and sent to jail quickly and regularly; even the old scum from the 70s are being hauled from their retirement houses into Court every other week.

As much as I cricitise the cops for some things they do (the historic investigations are now going beyond sex crimes and investigating drugs culture caused by loose prescription by 1970s doctors which can cause awkward situations at work) I really don’t envy them their jobs and they have made Ipswich a relatively safe place to live in (IMO way better than London where I was born and grew up).

I was only 2 years old then; although by the time I was at Catholic junior school halibut was often served up on Fridays until about 1979 (the Vatican started reminding people we should be looking after the environment (Pope Saint John Paull II mentioned this as well as Pope Francis) and the North Sea was getting both polluted and fished out.

I had wondered over the years what chance there might have been of myself having eating a halibut that had once feasted on the remains of Lord Lucan… (they are slow growers so one caught in the late 1970s could have been around for years)

On another note; do you also have fish and chip shops in the NE where the people running them (or their families) still have some involvement in the catching of the fish?

Lord Lucan disappeared in 1974. There was such a shit ton of sketchy murders and disappearances around that time and weill into the 1980s/early 90s it is easy to get confused.

The Catholic Church actually started all the eco-friendly stuff in 1969 at something called Vatican Council II; where they decided to finally accept various changes such as gender equality; diversity and commonality with other faiths (and that there is no legal requirement in Europe to be part of a faith group), not to start or prolong wars with Muslims, Jews or Protestants as well the “tree hugging stuff”. Added to which they pointed out although the Bible is one original source of scripture it is not the best thing to use for some modern applications; hence why the Pope gives out those random speeches every so often.

By and large this was all good; although English speaking traditionalists are still whinging about it (the only bad bit IMO is that it opened the way for contemporary Christian pop music); and in the 70s all the sweets and convenience foods kids ate had 10 times the amount of now banned E numbers as well as being advertised on telly stations run by middle class thugs and pedos (TBH there may actually have been less of these in the English Catholic church as the Special Branch/RUC had it under surveillance 24/7 at that time)

A while back on Radio Maria NL someone asked an old priest on a phone in what the “laudato si” was all about; to which the priest replied very careully and slowly “lees de documenten”.. This is a slightly more polite way of saying what in tech is known as RTFM :laugh_at:
