Hadn’t expected to see this; although it is a valid and genuine warning for younger people who are now in their teens/20s.
Before then there wasn’t as much (now discredited) paranoia about childhood vaccinations; TBH when I was a small child there seemed to be even more vaccinations (you would have to go with your parents to random government building near the main hospital site or it was done in the sickbay of school, often there were scary posters on the walls warning about all the diseases you could get if you didn’t have these jabs.). I think MMR had only just been invented when I was the required age and my local NHS region still gave separate injections!
I had to have some others on top of those before my parents visited Malaysia in the late 1970s – presumably they all did some good as I am still alive and in reasonable health for their age (this also put me off ever injecting drugs for enjoyment).
But if you didn’t have these vaccinations as a child and are going to any large gathering of people it is best to get them sorted out first, measles is nasty and contagious (it used to kill many people in the last century!)

Yeah fuck measles, not trying to catch that, and the point about being in a large gathering making transmission very likely, is quite relevant. I feel people are entitled to some right to opt out of some vaccines, but the naturopath worshiping, never seeing a medical doctor crowd is a bit over the top. Also a good bit of the benefit of vaccines is if everyone gets it then there is this thing called ‘herd immunity’ where basically nobody will get the disease, even the few people who didn’t get the vaccine, so some folks who have a chronic childhood illness that prevents them from getting the vaccine have a better shot at life because no one else has the disease so it dies out. This is similar to efforts to eradicate the Guinea Worm although a little more complicated cause it is airborne, but the principle holds that if the disease is quarantined and isolated then it might be eradicated, thus vaccines have their purpose; I had plenty of shots just like you GL and am no worse for wear.
Although there are lots and lots of new vaccines that may or may not have a ton of utility other than being a cash cow for pharmaceutical companies. The older vaccines that are for truly horrible diseases should be given to pretty much everyone, some other vaccines that are either niche, or don’t always work such as Flu shots, Anthrax, Rabies, TB are best reserved for people who have been exposed to those illnesses or are at risk for some reason.
Most states require 4 or 5 vaccines to start kindergarten, Connecticut is the outlying requiring 10 vaccines to start school. I’d be a bit angry if I had to get 10 series of vaccines for my child before the age of 6 as required by Connecticut but there are some people who are on the other end of the spectrum and are irrationally anti-vaccines, what I was alluding to by saying “naturopath worshiping” in the first paragraph was a couple in Canada who kept taking their kid to the naturopath even after it was obvious he had viral meningitis and an acquaintance had even said that to the parents, well the child died, and they tried to blame the emergency medical folks for not having an ambulance that accommodated children when they finally dialed whatever the Canadian equivalent of 911 is. The parents caught a manslaughter charge, the mom was remorseful and the dad wasn’t; part of their release conditions was to take their other children to a doctor.
