interesting – as I’ve read about similar traffic restrictions existing in Southern Germany just across the border with CH although I think those now allow some smaller cars but no vehicle above 3 500kg unless it is carrying sausgages or other essential food (and the Polizei will check inside to make sure that the contents are in order!
I just about remember being taught about pollution/acid rain in high school during the 1980s and that some countries were considering restricting motor traffic because of this, and there may still be cultural/religious acceptance of restrictions on motor vehicle use during Sundays or other days of rest in various bits of the world (even in 1980s our family walked to Mass, and my Dad was a great petrol-head and otherwise hated walking anywhere).
