DT’s and withdrawals are why I quit drinking seven years ago ~~~
I stopped drinking cold turkey seven years ago when I'd finally had enough delirium tremens and severe withdrawals and seizures. Although, last month I had my first relapse and at first only bought a quart of beer, but that only led to going back to where I left off seven years earlier at 36 to 40 beers per day; every day. I'd ran out of beer around 3:00am my third night of drinking and only had mouthwash to think about drinking. I thought and thought and thought about it a long time before actually taking a drink of it. I gagged and gagged, but managed to get down an entire 500ml bottle of Listerine then 7:00am came about soon enough where I again bought another three twelve-packs of Hamms Beer, but after this, with my liver cancer and all, I ended up calling 911 and being taken by ambulance to the hospital where I was admitted with liver failure. My SGOT and ALT levels were in the 700's when normal is between 15 and 25. I was hooked to an IV for fluids and Zofran for the throwing up and given Ativan for withdrawals and morphine for pain. My night nurse was especially nice to me by secretly administering my two doses of 4mg morphine every two hours as where the day nurses only pushed me with one dose of 4mg morphine every two hours. Morphine has a short half-life and I much prefer hydromorph, which is a Canadian pain drug most widely used, but sometimes used if you develop a rash from morphine.
I now know I'll never ever do this ETOH relapse again or I'll be six feet under and missing my beautiful kids!!!
PS.......by the way, my record alcohol level has been a .78 back in 1998. I'd set the hospital record there in Springfield, Missouri and many folks still don't believe how high my ETOH level was; this is why I still hold on to my discharge papers that prove my level was this high.

I've just gone in the cupboard and thought how come I have so many glasses ... And I've only 5 pint glasses and 1 other sort of tumbler that I inherited from a visitor to my van ( or maybe me coz i thought it was nice at the time)
... but I remembered back to borrowing 16 pint glasses for a gathering when I was about 16-7 and was shocked to realise my parents sussed I'd had a party whilst they were away.... When they found them
them what else have people borrowed from the pub with no intentions of giving them back?
Oh we also nearly got away with a wooden table and chairs but the police made ya give em back
i do have one seat borrowed from the festie hall about 16 yrs ago by a friend though

apple tea and alcohol??
Hi all.
This might be a bit of a odd question, but I bought some apple tea in turkey about a year ago, and it just tastes awesome. So i was wondering if you could maybe mix it with alcohol.
I know I could just try it out, but I just wanna ask you guys if anyone has any experience in the area, so I dont have to go through all kind of bad tasting drinks myself ;)
Peace out!!!

Low alcohol tolerance (w00t) + Comedown aid
So basically i have a ridiculously low alcohol tolerance.. I get nicely drunk off of 500ml of bulmers cider (2.6 units).
Now.. If i go above 3 i start to feel nauseous which is the problem, because its hard to judge when to drink more.
Also, does anyone else use it as a comedown aid when theres no weed around? I find it helps massively

UK : England : Old drinkers cost NHS more than younger ones
This is our parents/grandparents age group.. doesn't surprise me, most probably because they can "handle their drink" (i.e have learned not to fight or be blatantly anti social in public whilst drinking even more) so they aren't scrutinised as closely as younger people, at least until they get involved in nasty domestic violence (the level of this between old people is also hushed up a bit)
More NHS money is spent treating alcohol-related illness in baby boomers than young people, a study says.
The Alcohol Concern report found the cost of hospital admissions linked to heavy drinking 55 to 74-year-olds in 2010-11 was more than £825m.
That was 10 times the figure for 16 to 24-year-olds.
In total, nearly £2bn was spent on alcohol-related in-patient admissions in England, the report found.

A New York chef demonstrates how to use liquid nitrogen in
cooking
A teenager has had emergency surgery to remove her stomach
after drinking a cocktail containing liquid nitrogen.
Lancashire Police say Gaby Scanlon was out with friends in Lancaster last
Thursday (4 October) when it happened.
The 18-year-old is reported to have become breathless and developed severe
stomach pain before being taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
Officers say she would have died if doctors had not performed the operation.
The woman, from Heysham in Lancashire, was taken from Oscar's wine bar to
hospital at 11pm.
She was diagnosed with a perforated, or pierced stomach, and is now in a
serious but stable condition.
'Toxic chemical'
Lancashire Police have not officially named the place where she bought the
cocktail, but say Oscar's has stopped selling it.

UK : East : Some Ipswich shops stop selling super strength cheap alcohol.
This only happened after the street drinkers started killing each other, they were tolerated for some years and even the cops TBH are pragmatic about dealing with them (they actually look after a few and folk only get nicked for really bad behaviour)
A lot of the street drinkers are only about my age these days and some are younger....

CZ : Spirits banned after safety scare…
for a country with a strong drinking culture to do this it must be a real emergency - but thats a lot of people dead :crazy_diz
they still have their beer though....
The Czech government has banned the sale of all spirits containing more than 20% alcohol following a spate of poisoning that has left 19 people dead.
The ban covers all outlets including restaurants and hotels.
The poisonings have been blamed on bootleg vodka and rum tainted with the industrial chemical methanol and sold cheaply at markets and outdoor kiosks.
Czech police have arrested 10 people and seized 5,000 litres of spirits, as well as counterfeit labels.
Health Minister Leos Heger said the unprecedented ban was effective immediately and applied nationwide.
