Being a drugs counsellor… does anyone do it? know how to go about getting qualified etc? ive been thinking i might like to become one after councilling a few of my mates obviously im not so naive to think that this instantly qualifies me, but im just interested. Also throughout my life. I have dropped out of various different courses hobbies etc cause i dont find parts interesting, but the one thing i have stuck at since being 17 is drugs (lol). I know that sounds bad, but i dont just mean the taking of them. im really interested in why we do them and what motivates people etc etc.
Anyone got any advice?
Thanks.12
Research on functioning addicts Hello, I'm researching and writing about women addicts and have interviewed women who were long term users of cocaine and valium - but who ultimately got treatment and stopped using.
I'm looking for any stories (anonymous) from women who are still using a different drug - maybe heroin or methadone - would consider themselves addicted, but have some control over their lives, hopefully go to work, are not living the chaotic stereotype many people associate with addicts..
The Truth About an Addict (mature content) hi everybody, my name is Charles-Oliver Simard and I'm new to this forum. In fact this will be my first ever post here and I decided to share a very personnal project with you guys, which is the first part of a drug documentary I filmed last summer un Vancouver.
I need to warn you however that it can be shocking, even disgusting to some, but I think pretty much everybody here is mature enough to handle the truth. Now just so you know what led me to do this, I lived in probably the worst neighborhood in north america for more than 2 months last summer (vancouver downtown eastside, right on main and hastings at the regent hotel), working in construction, and it turned out I was so overwhelmed by all the poverty, drugs, and misery out there that I had to capture that intensity on film in order to better understand it and to show the rest of my family and friends what I went through.
So long story short, these deep thoughts got me into trying to grasp a real junkie's point of view on the subject, and after filming an hour long interview with an heroin addict named Bruce, I realised that I was holding some really powerfull material and I thought it would be a good idea to share it with as many people as possible. My goal doing this is to help people understand the human nature behind all types of addiction so they can stop judging, categorizing and marginalizing addicts and open up their minds a bit.
This being said, I'll let you watch it and dont be shy to comment, especially for this one, because I think drugs are a major issue in today's world, and even if it's hard to adress it, discussing it is a big part of the steps towards understanding and eventually finding solutions.

Drug Rehabilitation Center Nowadays youngsters are addict of drugs or alcoholic. Easily, they move to the wrong way. These happiness are only for some times, but makes life dark in future. So Social awareness must be given for those students. Rehab must take necessary steps to getaway from this strategy.
Crack addicted squirrels Stop us if you've heard this one: crack-addicted squirrels are terrorising Brixton in Sarf London in a desperate search for a fix, eschewing their traditional nuts and digging up residents' front gardens in what appears to be a credible zoological threat to the Yardies' hard-drug hegemony.
Yup, crack dealers and addicts have apparently taken to burying their stashes in people's gardens in the streets around the centre of Brixton after a police clampdown drove them from the thriving commercial heart of the popular London district. Locals have spotted squirrels digging in the same gardens, prompting speculation that they are already addicted to rocks and will in due course take up semi-automatic weapons and launch a violent challenge for the whole trade in illicit narcotics, as is the local custom.
One fearful resident, who asked not to be named, told Life Style Extra: "I was chatting with my neighbour who told me that crack users and dealers sometimes use my front garden to hide bits of their stash. An hour earlier I'd seen a squirrel wandering round the garden, digging in the flowerbeds. It looked like it knew what it was looking for. It was ill-looking and its eyes looked bloodshot but it kept on desperately digging. It was almost as if it was trying to find hidden crack rocks."
The RSPCA said it had no reports of the "Brixton Crack Squirrel", but did not completely dismiss the idea. A spokeswoman said: "We have not had any dealers reporting the theft of their stash by squirrels but the animal is attracted by smell and if it detects something it likes it will dig it up. If a squirrel did open a bag of crack and start consuming it there is no doubt it would die pretty quickly. I suspect that nobody has reported it because they are a wild animal and when they are found dead no-one cares.
Highly Addictive! You know you find them games that are simple but you just keep playing?
I have found one very simple idea but i just cant stop playing it!

My request: We are looking for a personal story about how a young person is fighting drug or alcohol addiction. We want the young person and their family to talk to us about the addiction and how it has affected their life. The ultimate aim for them to tell their story across the day on BBC Radio Five Live, and by doing so raise a number of issues for discussion. Please give me a call and I can explain more.
new way of handling scottish heroin addicts? check out this story from yesterday:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/5041240.stm
i hope it goes through; it would be a radical improvement for all involved in this problem, especially the addicts:crazy_fre
If there’s one good reason *not* to get addicted to class A’s… i've copied this from the "Heroin" thread... it deserves a thread of its own... remember whilst recreational use is OK when you are in control, if you get addicted (to anything) its often not just yourself who suffers...
