What is Amyl Nitrite? Amyl Nitrite
Amyl Nitrite is a highly volatile flammable liquid which evaporates at room temperature. Amyl Nitrite is just one member of the chemical group called Alkyl Nitrites.
The small bottles packaged under such glorious names as 'Rush' and 'Liquid Gold' that are sold in sex shops in Europe as 'room odourisers' are often just called 'amyl', although it's actually more common for the bottle to contain amyl's chemical cousin, the similar but less potent Butyl Nitrite.
I sometimes think it might be nice to have a chemical cousin, but then I'm sure it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Amyl vapor is inhaled. You should never drink amyl, in the same way that you should never drink petrol, or bleach.
Some people share their bottle of amyl around in a club for polite sniffs, like it's the latest smell from some fashion house and they're still unsure about parting with their readies. Some people just lift the bottle close to their mouths and gasp in big breaths of the vapor, like it's rush hour in a crowded, choking, city-center street, and they've just found the last source of free Oxygen for the next five blocks.
I've seen people dip a cigarette in the bottle, and then inhale deeply through the cigarette. Just in case you weren't sure what 'volatile' meant, you should only ever attempt this feat with an unlit cigarette. Exploding glass bottles are not many people's idea of a fun night out, just like melting your face isn't, either.
...and then...BOOM!
A few seconds later, you feel light-headed, dizzy, your heartbeat feels like it's pulsing through your body (which of course it is), only more so, there's a rush of warm flush to your skin, followed by relaxation and a general feeling of well-being.
Like all drug effects, you get to learn how to experience what you want to experience if you experience the experience more often. You might just feel light-headed and a bit queasy. 'Dizzy' might mean you lose balance enough to fall over. It's not unusual. The effects are over in a flash. Not a real flash, just a very short time. If you do see a flash it's almost invariably because someone's just taken a photo of you making a complete tit of yourself, politely sniffing a small bottle of something calling itself RUSH! and then rushing and falling over. Or some other flashy thing.
Lots of people who use amyl only use it when they're clubbing. Some of those people only use it when they're clubbing an on an e. Like many things that you might do on an e, whilst eeee-ing, the subjective experience of using amyl is slightly amplified. In the way that the subjective experience of bungee-jumping might be slightly amplified if you first donned a jet-pack. Be careful, it would say on the side of the jet-pack, if you intend to use this product to give your jump that extra rush. The ground is hard and generally relatively inflexible, and hurts when you crash into it. Please make sure that you are young and fit and healthy, and not liable to cause injury to yourself if you put this additional strain on your heart and circulatory system. It would probably also have a large warning label on the pack that said Highly Inflammable! With upper-case H and I, just like that. Just in case you'd forgotten.

The other main effect is as a muscle relaxant; a popular urban myth is the near-legendary status that poppers (for when you get bored of calling it amyl) have as a muscle relaxant. Particularly the anal sphincter muscle. And it's sold in sex shops. The near-legendary status is obviously of more interest to some scenes than others. Lube may be slightly messier, but it is generally an exceptionally effective means of reducing friction in any intimate relationship.
So what?
If you suffer from circulation problems or from low blood pressure, be particularly wary. This substance is not for you. Emergency rooms are rarely fun.
Alkyl nitrites are known to be potent inhibitors of the human immune system. Whether or not your immune system is compromised in any way, alkyl nitrites will damage human tissue. Your body. Research sourced from the US National Institute on Drug Abuse links the use of alkyl nitrites in the presence of HIV to 'sustained alterations to the human immune system'. Whatever your thoughts about NIDA, any research that suggests that alkyl nitrites may be connected to Karposi's Sarcoma, a skin cancer that can indicate the development of AIDS, is worth sitting up to take note of, and find out more about.

In the UK it is not (yet) illegal to possess Amyl or Butyl Nitrite. Amyl Nitrite is controlled by the Medicines Act, so you need to be an appropriately authorised person to produce or sell it. Butyl Nitrite is not yet controlled. I have read (in a newspaper, so it may or may not be true, but it's a nice story, anyway) of at least one 'joke shop' vendor who was successfully prosecuted for selling Butyl Nitrite, when he admitted to the arresting officers that he fully expected the purchaser to stuff the bottle up his nose and inhale deeply. Note that it isn't currently controlled by any legislation in the UK. I'm not sure what happened on appeal (errr-well, m'lud, the defendant's plea is that he didn't actually break the law at all. Shall I send him down now, and save you the bother?)
In the US, these nitrites have been banned since 1988 by the US congress who cited an AIDS link. Any port in a storm, as the saying goes. It probably came to some congressman's attention that leaving the lid off a bottle of Rush! actually makes your room smell bloody awful. Like it's full of Butyl Nitrite, or something. Oddly, this hasn't yet been noticed in the UK. Let's hope that Tony Blair hasn't read this far.1234
Legal Highs / Hello! Hello, folks. Have been lurking here for a little while studying my current obsession which is synthetic cannabinoids. I only recently became aware of the existence these chemicals when I was trying to find out what was in a powder I bought from a herb shop. All it really said was "incense only, not for human consumption", so I googled that and been fascinated since. I still don't know what that powder is, I suspect it's just Kanna or some other thing that doesn't do much.
All this "herbal incense" is banned where I am so I'll have to go interstate one of these days and experience them for myself. Of course I have found a thousand horror stories about overdose. I did that once with some brownies I made, first time I'd used buds in the butter instead of leaf. You know the thing "oh this isn't working I better have a couple more" and a very unpleasant night ensued. All the same symptoms that these noid OD stories contain, except it lasted for hours.
That certainly didn't put me off weed, just taught me that it is possible to overdo it. Despite the ocean of recommendations to stay away I have seen several accounts from people who actually like the herbal incense and I won't be satisfied until I can make up my own mind.
Quite envious of you folks in UK at the moment where the laws about RCs seem to be evolving very differently to the way they are here; where the Attorney-General has the power to immediately declare any new chemical an "interim controlled substance". You can literally buy a product that the police have never seen and it be illegal before you even get it home. This happened recently when one of the local newspapers was having a slow day and wanted to stir up some news.
Detailed information about the legality of these things and about prosecution of these vague laws is notoriously difficult to find; I suspect it's even a bit of a mystery to law makers themselves at the moment which only adds to the intrigue.
So anyway, very nice to find a place where people actually discuss this in an informative and unbiased manner.

I of course took more than 1 hit lmao and got fucked up, my friend said i was holding the bong and passed out & woke back up in like a min or 2 with the bong still in my hand lol glad I didn't drop the bong. Yea I smoke a little 2 much of Mary Joy in 1 sitting, be careful with this shit, it reminds me of the old Biazrro cas it used 2 do me like that after smoking so much and eventually I od from the shit. Now on 2 the Bud Factory it was good 2 but more of a body high and it took me like 2 or 3 hit's 2 feel pretty good. It was more of a mellow high and it was nice after the hard core MJ LMAO. I would also like 2 mention I had alot of chem's in my system the MJ chem's + the Bud Factory Chem's. I could def tell the difference between the 2. I liked the MJ better but I like the hardcore shit better any day just me though. If u want just more of the mellow good happy buzz go with the bud factory, if you want the MAD TRIPPY as I like 2 call it buzz go with the MJ. Be carful though what pep don't realize when smoking very potent herbal incense is that the chem's stay in u 4 a while, so there4 u need 2 wait a while after smoking again even if u ain't high. This is where I fucked up with Biazrro because I kept smoking and smoking and smoking not letting my body flush any of the chem's. So you’ve smoked too much! What are your tips for coming down from synthetic weed? I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for people that have smoked a little too much synthetic cannabis or too much of the real thing. What are some of your tips for 'coming down' or relaxing in a situation where you are getting anxious and concerned about your well being?
We've all been there, specially after smoking too much while you're drunk. The standard "green out" - what are your tips for coming right and coming down or at the very least dealing with it?
Here are some of my personal ones;
If I'm sober and I've smoked too much, anxiety is creeping up, I like to skull a beer or two. Perhaps a couple of shots, it lowers my anxiety quickly.
I find if I'm thinking bad thoughts or I don't feel comfortable in the situation, I go for a small walk, and move myself to a more comfortable environment.
I look at the time and set a goal, usually most blends seem to peak at 5 minutes and wear down after 25. That gives me 20 minutes to get through. Goes pretty quickly.
I'm curious what some other methods you guys use, this can apply to natural cannabis, but ideally we are talking about the short lasting but strong effects of synthetic cannabis.
Smoking blends fr0om Iceheadshop The good folks at iceheadshop kindly sent me 2 samples of smoking blends they sell which wad very generous so here's what I have to say.
Both potent smoking blends which are plenty potent and if I wasn't half blind I might even be able to read what the compound used in the blend is.
If you were uninitiated and bought this as your 1st experience of a blend you'd be very happy with either so in this instance and inj these respects, the products are a success.

PhD Student looking for participants Hi everyone,
My name is Kieran and I'm looking for people who have used novel psychoactive substances (NPS - aka 'research chemicals' or 'legal highs') to take part in my PhD research. I am using the term NPS very broadly to also include pharmaceuticals which are used off-prescription (either for medical or recreational purposes), synthetic drugs such as mephedrone, methylone, methoxetamine etc and other analogues of traditional illicit drugs, and herbal substances such as mescaline, salvia etc.
The research aims to investigate the relationship between mainstream and alternative media (such as this forum), people's use and attitudes towards NPS, people's attitudes towards drug policy in general, and people's use and dissemination of harm reduction advice and techniques.
All participants are guaranteed anonymity and I take your privacy very seriously. None of the information you provide will be shared with third parties etc. There is a possibility that the research I am doing could be published in academic journals but all names will be replaced and all data made anonymous.
The research consists of a 5 minute survey as well as interviews. If you would be happy to take part you can complete the survey here: Novel psychoactive substances, harm reduction, and media (more info about the research is on the survey page) and leave your email address at the end if you want to take part in an interview. Interviews can be done in person, or over Skype video/voice call, or over email/PM as well.

Black Mamba! So a few months ago was short of weed and was like.... okay let's head down to the head shop and see what's what.
Bought a 1g pack... smells alright, nothing like aching I've smelt before though.
Anyway, took about a quarter of it and rolled it into a joint with tobacco and proceeded to smoke it just outside union square. We then went for a walk along to the river and sat beside the river smoking it.
Its kinda nuts because it gets you really high, really fast. Like smoking a lot of weed at once, and also gives you mild hallucinations which was really cool. Quite short lasting though cause on the way back (lasted an hour or 2 tops) it started to wear off.
Other times we took it we ran around a car park pretending to shoot at people below... lol.
So yeah I've read people don't like is stuff and just gives em a headache but me and my friend really like it. Me more so, I could easily smoke it instead of weed but it's not so much a body stone than it is a head high. So like a really strong saliva.
Id say give it a go but don't sit around the house all day smoking it, go out and smoke it at a park or smsomething
