UK : East : Ipswich gridlocked yesterday due to onions. At least I was working from home yesterday.. traffic was backed up all the way along the Orwell bridge into town..
A STRETCH of the A14 closed when a lorry shed its load of onions reopened today for 18 minutes before another crash forced its closure.
As if the whinging bumpkins don't realise that the feds do have to clear up every last fucking onion, if people go driving over them at 70 mph there certainly will be tears! Not everyone drives tractors FFS (although those who drive lorries perhaps should do so a bit more carefully, seems to be loads crashed recently).
Update: A14 closed by onion spill reopens - only to be closed 18 minutes later by second crash - News - East Anglian Daily Times
NL : unlucky duck crossing leads to carnage Ouch! this woman in Groningen who was driving with her two kids braked hard because a duck was crossing the road, and sadly not only did she hit the duck anyway other cars ran straight into the back of her and into each other, a car towing the horsebox and a Audi TT were involved. She and the kids are injured taken to hospital, the duck was found dead by the road, bluelight services deployed en masse and the entire road closed for two hours.
Overstekende eend zorgt voor ravage (Video)
(good thing she did not hit a goose!)
UK : East : Ouch! Thats a nasty one… Ouch! I've got friends who live round that way, hope they are OK (don't think any of them can afford a Audi TT though and even if they did would drive more carefully)
Poor bugger driving is has clearly had a great amount of brick land on his head, Eastamb first took him to James Paget but he has been transferred to Addenbrookes which means he is in a bad way..
If anyone here is on the roads "mind how you go" in this ice..

the UK theory test I failed my driving test in the early 90s by a surprisingly narrow margin (though I clearly wouldn't have been safe to drive had I passed!) just at the time of the changeover and wasn't able to retake it before this was brought in. I recently started learning again and TBH this seems to be even worse than actually driving, I'm sure the old examiners only asked you what about 10 road signs meant, not 50.
And WTF is this hazard perception thing?
looked at in on youtube from official gov site and it showed footage of driving through central London what seemed like a episode of fucking ashes to ashes, half expected a stereotypical black kid with ghetto blaster behind his ear to be the hazard, at least for the civillian version (for metpol advanced drivers the solution would have been to quickly back away in case of collision and get the patrol car repaired "cash no questions asked" somewehre in essex before the political correctness mob found out).
seriously though how is this done? is it like a poltically correct version of one of them computer games for car driving, or do you click on a list of choices or something else?12
NO : Road Tunnel closed by major cheese fire… That is some serious cheese..
A road tunnel in Norway has been closed - by a lorry-load of burning cheese.
About 27 tonnes of caramelised brown goat cheese - a delicacy known as Brunost - caught light as it was being driven through the Brattli Tunnel at Tysfjord, northern Norway, last week.
The fire raged for five days and smouldering toxic gases were slowing the recovery operation, officials said.
The tunnel - which is said to be badly damaged - is likely to remain closed for several weeks, they added.
"We can't go in until it's safe," geologist Viggo Aronsen told Norwegian broadcaster NRK.
Police officer Viggo Berg said the high concentration of fat and sugar in the cheese made it burn "almost like petrol if it gets hot enough".

UK : where do you buy L-plates from these days? My driving instructor says I am now ready/safe to also start private practice with a relative of mine who works at the same company, using one of the fleet cars (which I am insured for).
But we need to put L plates on the vehicle when I am driving it, of a kind which can be removed when not required.
Where do you get these from, without having to wait a few days to order them? I looked at Halfords but apparently their ones are no good (you now need to go on 70mph dual carriageways on your driving test and the cheap one will come adrift at that speed, creating a hazard to other motorists and making your vehicle illegal). Are there any other stores selling motor accessories like this?
When I was younger I would go with my Dad to this sort of shop what was run by "oily rag" type blokes where they sold everything from spark plugs to alloy wheels, axle stands etc (this was the time when folk worked on their own cars) and they sold L plates, GB plates and tacky reflective stickers and go-faster stripes but these places appear to have long gone...
IN/UK : How to deal with roundabouts. subtitled "Driver Training for Indians" but the road system is (supposed) to be the same standard in both IN and UK. Someone pointed out that one of the roundabouts he pictured is actually in Hounslow :laugh_at:
actually all of his videos appear to be shot in Hounslow, or the surrounding areas. His aim must be to use West London as a benchmark for safe driving standards amongst the native Indians (which gives some idea as to what it must be like in Indian cities  )

UK : East : The Orwell Bridge is 30 years old this week! Ipswich is divided down the middle by the tidal River Orwell, and the freshwater River Gipping. The two bridges in the town at Princes Street and Bridge Street were (and often still are!) very congested at peak times, so a bigger one was built to provide better links with villages in the East of the town and Felixstowe.
