Martial arts forum I may be starting a martial arts (wing chun) forum up with a guy I know. Any advise for getting it off the ground? Am I right in thinking I just need to buy a domain name, rent server space and get the software, chuck it on the sever and set it up? There's no other steps I'm missing out?

Been an age since I have been on here, I miss browsing and getting involved but my better half doesn't like me in the laptop all the time. I use tapatalk on my phone and it makes forums easy, however you dont have partyvibe available on there. Not sure what it takes, I miss here and am not really keen on squatjuice (the only other party site on that phone app)

Bad bot block list I've decided to start limiting bot access to the site so I've disallowed them all baring facebook, yahoo, bing, msn and google in robots. txt, I've started blocking the IPs of bots who don't respect robots.txt and expanded Who's Online with better spider reporting. So if you're ever in Who's Online and see a bot you think should be banned please paste their details below such as:

where have the smileys gone? Or is it just me?
I lost the smileys down the rhs of a posting box a couple of days ago and don't know if the fault is at my end or the forum end...
I still have the post smileys for the thread header but the rest are awol :-(

SECURITY THREAT! um it seams that any one who uses the log on with facebook feature can just walts into the staff section .. i just did it ... as the staff room shows up if you log on this way !!!!

vbseo This is a thread to track my progress with vbseo (vBSEO - vBulletin SEO) which I've just installed after giving up on adwords because I've concluded it wasn't doing much good for us. vbSEO is a paid (75 UKP & 15 UKP / annum update) third party tool for optimising forum software for search engines (don't like "dynamic urls") and humans. And although I already put a lot of time and effort into manually optimising the site, this takes to all the places I couldn't reach before where it can add kewords to urls, shorterns them and makes them more human readable (below). In particular it's now handling the less than friendly addresses produced by several of the tools we use such as webtemplates, vbshout (old chat room), inferno chat (new chat room) and downloads ii some of which are important pages for the site in terms of the traffic they bring in...
More soon and as usual please report any problems you might notice...
