Which Operating Systems Do You Use? Thought it might be interesting to see what people are using and how much open source operating system software is out there. Personally I use mostly Android, Windows and Linux but I also use others on a regular basis...12

I am now an ex-Windows user :) Downloaded Ubuntu Desktop ISO, burnt it to a DVD,
Booted from the DVD on my hacked wreck of a laptop after removing the CMOS battery to let me boot from DVD (and rebuilding the laptop). Took maybe 2 weeks to get it right.
15 minutes after putting the DVD in, I have a fully functional system. Even the TV tuner and hardware Video recorder were recognised, wireless OK, every bit of hardware sorted AUTOMATICALLY (some bits of it NEVER WORKED ON WINDOWS AT ALL).
What can I say apart from... I wish I'd done this years ago. Of course it wouldn't have been so easy back then but I'm gobsmacked by how piss easy it was to do.
Took a couple hours to get some free software installed to run, but am busy learning new PCB design, FreeCiv for when I need some strat gaming, video codecs and sound and internet radio all on demand...
... I am not going to install Windows again. Ever. Not on my systems, not on anybody else's. Microsoft can go back to hell.
Wasn’t expecting this to happen (or even work!) this is a Win10 x64 PC running the fast track preview build (hat tip to Tryptameanie as the link was also on one of the sites he linked another article from)
Could be quite useful for my work where there is a mixture of Windows and Linux kit as it means I can test stuff from home without having to log in to servers elsewhere (Python appears to run normally on this as well, although I haven't yet checked if /dev/* maps to all the same places as it should on Windows)
Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge Owners I am considering upgrading to a Samsung device on my next upgrade from my iPhone 6 Plus and it would be helpful to know if TouchWiz is any better of a UI. I keep hearing all this mess about how laggy it is and how it reboots the phone and has app crashes, etc. If you guys are using the S6/S6 Edge, would you mind commenting and telling me your experience with it? I've been shit shaming Samsung for years because TouchWiz used to be so terrible so I would like to try one of their smartphones but don't want to buy a $900 phone if it's just going to be screwy for the next year.
I am on TM's network, by the way if that helps. Thanks.
Android or iOS on your smartphone and why? I genuinely love both Android and iOS and I actually tend to switch back and forth between them every year or so. Right now I'm using an iPhone 6 Plus on TM network with the latest iOS update. Having issues with my mail app but other than that, pretty smooth experience as usual.
Going back to Android on my next upgrade which is whenever I have $800 sitting around lol. I have had Motorola, Samsung, LG, HTC, iPhone in the past. The smoothest Android experience was definitely on my old HTC One M8. I'm kind of a tech nerd so tech jargon will not confuse me and yes, I am female. I wasn't a fan of HTC's Sense keyboard on the M8 and the camera was just ok...I would rather have MP vs UP any day. Cosnidering the HTC One M10 whenever it shows itself this year. I considered upgrading to the S6 Edge but since I used to work at TM, I have learned the hard way that TouchWiz is a TERRIBLE UI and definitely needs improvements.
My job at TM was the inventory specialist so I was the one who got to unbox all the new phones and gadgets and also build the displays for them. All of the Samsung phones we had would stop working within the day of being put up and if not then, it would be within a week. NOW, this was a combo of customers fucking around with the phones but as far as solid performance...no. Just no. Now I want this thread to be civilized and I'm not going to argue with people about which is better or which UI is the best because everyone is entitled to their opinion.
So let me know what you guys think of 2015's line up of phones and what you hope to see this year in 2016. What you are looking forward to, if you're upgrading, what service provider you have, etc.
Qubes OS Started watching the lady who founded the company behind this (invisiblething I thnk) since she presented her bluepill malware at a BlackHat conference a fewyears back. Looks like the OS is coming to fruition.

hat tip to dr b didn't think this would be possible with a modern feature rich site like this!
hmm had to put message in bottom bit or too short *unless i;m mistyping some control key
Raspberry pi has arrived. Pretty neat little thing. Haven't had the chance to do anything with it yet as I need to get an SD card with a linux distro on it to boot, but it's such an elegant device. Only slightly bigger than a credit card as well! Going to be quite fun using this I reckon.
I had a Mac, now I’ve gone back… My old Macbook Pro finally ground to a complete halt today; over the past few years just about every component gradually died on it - trackpad, keyboard, screen went dim, battery swelled up and exploded, bluetooth's shagged, shit wifi reception, hard drive buggered and refuses to back up, and no software including the OS will run on it.
Couldn't justify (or afford) spending £1000+ on another one if it's gonna cause me all that grief again so I've just got myself a PC laptop for £400.
Mac can fuck off.
Duplicate files in Vista I know i have zillions of duplicate files on my computer (vista home premium).
Been looking around at free softwares to find duplicates and then remove whichever ones you want.
But there are so many, and then i get suspicious of them all, just takes one bad user review and im outa there! paranoia corner lol - and now my brain really hurts! :hopeless:
As this is one of the few sites i trust - i thought i'd ask here before doing anything!
Any suggestions anyone?12
Anyone Running on Ubuntu/linux Just out of curiosity if anyone is running operating system Ubuntu/Linux and how is it going if you do, I'm trying to get off main stream OS(operating systems) and ubuntu seems great and no anti virus needed.12
Apple With groups on facebook like a = apple, p.c = piece of crap

It has started me thinking.
Of course it depends on what p.c you have? yeah, no? Something about the cash on an apple processors, right?
Anyway any users out there with a mac? What you think?
Is p.c really dying?
Any thing else to write, please do.12
