The rise of the facebook clubbers Has anyone noticed that people now go out only because they want to be seen to be going out by other people ?
Everyone seems to have a god damn digital camera to prove to themselves and to their little mates that they had a good time and they have a social life.
The funny thing about the people who insist on taking millions of pictures or trying to get into as many photoshoot opportunities as they can is that in real life away from the glare of a photo op they don't actually seem to know what to do, that is ... they don't for one second look even slightly happy in what theyre doing. the amount of furtive glances and awkward looks coming off these little people on the dancefloor is unreal especially when they realise they're your doing it better or your looking better than them. BUT these are the same ones who are itching to get their fake smiles recorded and uploaded onto facebook for the world to see.
Most clubs make me sick, and even if there is a good night on then it's ruined by legions of insecure butt-hurt little wannabe's who are as fake as a 3 pound coin.
Why god, oh why ? are we cursed with these numpties ?
It's no wonder free parties exist but alas there are far too few of them.
So............. am i alone in seeing it this way or is this an accurate estimation of the facts ?12

Instant Personalisation on Facebook is here!
Do you remember that news back in April 2010 when Facebook announced it was going to be launching an 'Instant Personalisation' tool? A piece of software that would eventually personalise any website you visit... if, of course you're logged on to Facebook at the same time?
Well, it's finally here. It's been rolled out and launched today. And apparently, unless you actually go into your own account and manually switch it off, you'll just be automatically part of the Instant Personalisation experience. It's like Facebook Connect in that it allows another website to use information from your own Facebook profile.

How to turn it off
1. Log into Facebook. In the top right hand corner, click Account, and then Privacy Settings.
2. Under the heading Apps and websites, select Edit your settings.
3. Under the heading Instant personalization, select Edit settings. You may see a popup called ‘Understanding instant personalization’. Just hit Close.
4. At the very bottom of the page, simply untick the box labeled Enable instant personalization on partner websites. This will instantly turn off partner websites accessing your data.
If, however, the option is greyed out but still ticked, this means that Facebook has not yet activated instant personalization just yet. It takes time. Check back in a few hours, or the next day.
Soundcloud embeds and Facebook Like You can now embed soundcloud files into your post as per the following example by simply adding the name of the track or mix between the tags below:
Example: [sc]dj-spunky-lobster-the-rock-on-the-beach-jan-2010[/ sc] (without the space)

Result:
[sc]dj-spunky-lobster-the-rock-on-the-beach-jan-2010[/sc]
You'll have also noticed Facebook Like buttons have appeared here and there. So if you "like" a thread or a post please share it with your friends!
And we might be seeing more integration with facebook in the future including the ability to access content here thanks to your facebook login without having to log in or register (here) which I think might be useful...
Return of underground rave culture is fuelled by the recession and Facebook "Organisers of last week's huge illegal rave in London say the phenomenon is driven by the lawlessness of the web and the politics of opposition....
...The gig was organised by Scumtek, a grassroots movement that originated from squats and is closely linked to Teknival, a dance subculture that fuses elements of rave, traveller culture and America's Burning Man festival scene. However, last Saturday's event represents a marked departure from previous Teknivals. Traditionally their raves are confined to isolated locations such as remote hillsides in Brecon, Wales, rather then the centre of the capital.
Teknival is understood to have experienced a resurgence this year due in part to escalating policing costs at legal festivals and licensing and sound-level restrictions. But the speed with which Scumoween's organisers were able to mobilise the masses remains central to its growth..."

James Meacher, 19, made the threats to his 17-year-old victim telling him that his life “wouldn’t be worth living” and he would “end up in a ditch,” Cambridge Crown Court heard.Meacher also left a message on the social networking site saying he did not care if the threats were shown to police.
But they were, and now Meacher has been sent to a young offenders’ institution for eight months.

*moved on user request* Facebook being used to sack/discipline employees. Good evening!
Recently I posted on my current employers discussion board on facebook in reply to a customers comment (regarding not recieving any email, letter or any form of reply to her complaint) stating that my employers deletes emails and bins letters of that nature. This has and does happen. When I arrived into work I was told I needed to contact my manager as this is regarded as gross misconduct which will result in the termination of my contract. What i'm interested to know is if the username i use on facebook isnt my actual full name, accounts can be set up with no information needed to prove you are who you say you are and there is no proof of the original posts (all threads have been deleted by the company) then when it comes to FB can a company actually end your contract when there is no physical proof?
I end my contract Wednesday anyway to start my new job so nothing will come of this but im just interested to see what information people have, law knowledge or just your opinion is on the matter ..
take it easy, Tommo :)

A party on a Scottish island organised on social networking also-ran Bebo ended badly when two hundred partygoers became stranded by the tide.
The majority of the 500 attending the party in the middle of the Firth of Forth made it back before the causeway was flooded, and reportedly had a good time despite the rain. But as The Scotsman reports 200 of them didn't get home quite so easily.
Saturday was glorious in Scotland, ideal for a party organised on Cramond Island, a small island in the Firth of Forth, home only to rats and rabbits and connected to the mainland by a causeway only navigable at low tide. The party was announced on Bebo and promoted on Facebook (they wanted some people to turn up after all), and the details were pretty explicit that getting home would cease to be an option after 20.00:
u have to leave the island 20.00 hours (8pm) if you are not staying the night. this is also the time u will be able to get ON the island untill!
A few people had planned to camp on the uninhabited island, but many more just didn't notice the time then panicked and called 999 for rescue as the cold started to bite through their t-shirts.
Six partiers ended up with hypothermia, 70 had to be shipped off by boat and another 130 were led across the causeway by police after the 01.30 tide went out - The Scotsman puts the cost of the rescue at around £10,000, though some people enjoyed it:
"There was a rumour that the police were coming," said one of the participating DJs, "but we just thought, we're nice and dry in the bunker and it's turning into a great night, so why move? ... The first I realised there had been an incident was when I read it on a news website when I got up. It's a bit mad."Bebo rave becalmed by waves ? The Register
Facebook page has Draw Mohammad Day A court in Pakistan has ordered the authorities temporarily to block the Facebook social networking site.
The order came when a petition was filed after the site held a competition featuring caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.
The petition, filed by a lawyers' group called the Islamic Lawyers' Movement, said the contest was "blasphemous".
A message on the competition's information page said it was not "trying to slander the average Muslim".
"We simply want to show the extremists that threaten to harm people because of their Muhammad depictions that we're not afraid of them," the statement said.
"They can't take away our right to freedom of speech by trying to scare us into silence."
Correspondents say that publications of similar cartoons in Danish newspapers in 2005 sparked angry protests in Muslim countries - five people were killed in Pakistan.
Internet is free in Pakistan but the government monitors content by routing all traffic through a central exchange.
Justice Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court ordered the department of communications to block the website until 31 May, and to submit a written reply to the petition by that date.
An official told the court that parts of the website that were holding the competition had been blocked, reports the BBC Urdu service's Abdul Haq in Lahore.
But the petitioner said a partial blockade of a website was not possible and that the entire link had to be blocked.
The lawyers' group says Pakistan is an Islamic country and its laws do not allow activities that are "un-Islamic" or "blasphemous".
The judge also directed Pakistan's foreign ministry to raise the issue at international level.
In the past, Pakistan has often blocked access to pornographic sites and sites with anti-Islamic content.
It has deemed such material as offensive to the political and security establishment of the country, says the BBC's M Ilyas Khan in Islamabad.
In 2007, the government banned the YouTube site, allegedly to block material offensive to the government of Pervez Musharraf.
The action led to widespread disruption of access to the site for several hours. The ban was later lifted.
glad to see people are standing up to the more radical views...
