UK : London : Emergency websites and numbers following terrorist attack it looks like some disruption may persist into the weekend and may affect other areas (due to knock on effects of train diversions) so I've collated all the relevant info into one post.
This particular thread is stuck and locked so the numbers/URLs don't get buried by the political discussions (there are other threads on our board already) - whatever our views we all need to get about to places as before and not give in to those trying to stop us....
(This thread will be unstuck when the travel situation returns to normal)

PV – highest ranked rave related messageboard on google? anyone else noticed that whenever you search for anything rave related on google, partyvibe comes up in one of the first result pages you see?
even when the site was crashed for a week our site was well high in the rankings
there are webmasters elsewhere who would kill for a site ranking like this - I guess that because we are non commercial, relatively work safe and we "do what it says on the box" (i.e provide a high quality on-line community for ravers worldwise) we all earned this rating?
thats a brilliant achievement IMO :D

Reprieve for Devon's wild goats
A decision on whether to cull a herd of wild goats in Devon has been postponed.
Wild goats have roamed the Valley of Rocks near Lynmouth, north Devon, for hundreds of years and 79 were recorded in the Domesday book.
Some residents want to get rid of the goats claiming they are destructive, while others say they should stay.
Councillors were due to confirm a decision on Thursday, but will now hold a special meeting in the next few weeks so that all sides can air their views.
The goats roaming the rugged Exmoor valley have strayed into the town to graze on plants and flowers in gardens, allotments and the local cemetery.
Some locals say the goats are ruining the area and are pressing Lynton Town Council to carry out the cull.
The move has attracted fierce opposition from environmental groups.
Lynton resident Roland Gold believes there are alternative ways of dealing with the goats.
He said: "We've been trying to sort out a system of fencing and cattle grids to make it possible to keep the animals in the valley where they're needed.
Tourist attraction
"Unfortunately, there are people against cattle grids and there are people against fencing and there are people who're unhappy with the goats intruding in gardens."
Mr Gold says the goats are not dangerous and attract thousands of tourists to the area every year.
The RSPCA criticised the planned cull, saying it was not aware of any research demonstrating it was necessary.
Kevin Manning, the charity's regional animal welfare manager, said: "There are ways of ensuring good animal welfare and controlling numbers of feral goats without mass culling."
He pointed to the selective breeding programme at the Great Orme in Wales, which has an established feral goat colony, as a way of managing numbers.
'No discrimination'
But other townspeople say the goats are a problem which must be tackled.
One resident said: "They have no discrimination and they'll just go anywhere they can to find something to eat. They're a pest and there's no doubt about it."
Town clerk Geoff Dwyer told BBC News the council was in discussions with English Nature.
"The valley needs management and one option is grazing," he said.
"There are about 80 goats and we will be discussing various options, including relocating a significant number of them, if not all.
"Opinion in the town is divided, so I'd say the council is between a rock and a hard place."
there were 79 in the doomsday book
and there are 80 now
they haven't been a problem for all that time
now they are
does that say something about the goats
or the people? :wtf_beard
TVP website upgrade I've put this on here for security reasons and also because I'm fairly sure TVP do take an interest in us - we have "assisted" many crews in that area and our sites registration details are in Oxfordshire!
TVP have upgraded their website - this would indicate they have "spare money in the pot" in the IT budget which they are trying to use before end of public sector financial year (otherwise the Treasury take it away!)
its not a massive upgrade but shows that they are becoming increasingly IT-savvy.
Strangely enough I once met their main IT database programmer (who works on this site) at Reading College (an Indian man in his 30s living in Reading) - he came across as a very knowledgeable and skilled person..
I (obviously) didn't discuss anything too "sensitive" with him - but he mentioned that TVP were increasingly becoming interested in monitoring and policing the internet - as were other law enforcement agencies worldwide, and that via Scotland Yard and the FBI, there was a lot of trading of "good practice" (i.e innovative ways of monitoring website traffic).
I also found this on their website. A picture of him is on the site (one of TVP's few black officers BTW!)

Name: PC Mike Ellis
Age: 44
Role: Anti-social behaviour manager
Time in Force: 17 Years
Previous roles: Drugs proactive unit, control room, rave intelligence unit, secondment to Prince's Trust, youth liaison officer, community beat officer, crime prevention officer and restorative justice practitioner.
In his ground-breaking role as Anti-Social Behaviour Manager, PC Mike Ellis has been tackling the problems of anti-social behaviour that affect Northern Oxfordshire.
Seconded to Cherwell District Council, and working with Det Con Ady Cole, the officer seconded to West Oxon District Council in the same role, Mike works closely with other agencies on the cases of some of the most hardened anti-social behaviour offenders in the area.
Making a real difference to both the offender and the community by using tools such as anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs), restraining orders and eviction orders is the most satisfying aspect of Mike's job.
He said: ”Our role is to firstly identify the offenders that we need to target, then work with our partner agencies to secure appropriate methods to deal with them, such as an ASBO.
“Often, once an ASBO is in place, the real work begins. By continually working closely with both intelligence and operational officers, we are able to monitor offenders and the impact that they are having on communities and if orders are being breached, make the relevant arrests as we have done on six occasions over the past six months.
“It is when an order is successful, and both the path of an offender's life and the sense of security within a community is changed for the better, that the true benefits of proactively challenging anti-social behaviour can be seen.”
Mike feels Thames Valley Police's modern approach to policy can only mean more positive moves in tackling future problems of anti-social behaviour. He said: “Thames Valley Police is probably one of the most forward-thinking, advanced forces in the country.
“They have developed many of the most innovative and new approaches to crime nationwide, and I am confident that we will continue to explore new ways of challenging anti-social behaviour within the Force.”
Trolling now a criminal offence! not sure if anyone else picked up on this, but last year the first successful criminal case was brought against a messageboard troll in the UK
it was a chap who disrupted a messageboard intended for military veterans "Forces Re-united", and uploaded malware onto this boards "shared files" section.
The penalty was fairly minor (60 hours community service) + £520 fine - OTOH he would certainly have had his personal IT equipment confiscated and examined, should he not pay the fine he is at risk of going to prison for non payment and the penalty is not a caution but a full criminal conviction which affects future job prospects in an increasingly competitive world - and the freedom to travel to certain countries!
The force who led the investigation was Wiltshire Police - they come across as fairly pro-active on internet crime (they even have an account here, which they use to warn off free party crews in their counties - I have checked it and it is for real...)
Whilst I don't think any party boards would willingly grass up a troll to the old bill, there is a practice on SJ of trolling other boards (including some run by serving regular or special cops).
I've also seen warnings on messageboards which warn would-be trolls that they will notify cops, and even employers (if the traffic comes from a work account) of any disruptive activities - and even if admins don't call the old bill and just get their suppliers involved, some ISPs and hosting companies are perfectly happy to work with Police forces (some of whom may not necessarily be in the UK) as "good corporate citizens"
although much of this thankfully is not a big threat to this board, some people have the same screennames on many different boards, and a notorious troll is bound nowadays to attract reprisal action from the people whose boards they have disrupted...
Junktion Interface Website Online Now! ATTENTION all.....TECHNO/RAVERS/GABBAHEADS/PARTyNUTS & ALTERNATIVE LIFESTYLERS...
Hey.....
Just thought I'd let you know about my website...
jUNKTION iNTERFACE...
Check it out and let me know what you thnk!!...
I'm still working on some of the content...(under construction)
But I'm interested in hearing about how it loads in the browser you are using...
And about any other obvious problems I haven't noticed....
I mean what do you think about online sites advertising soundsystem partyline numbers? (at the moment, it does not). Obviously the site address should be distributed/linked cautiously and I have reservations to getting it listed in a search engine for this reason (illegal party info-getting into the wrong hands) but then the point of this site being online is not only to link london soundsystems but also to provide a service to musicians, artists, squatters via the means of the resources page and the junkion noticeboard....so maybe I should refrain from publishing soundsystem partyline numbers and be content with just providing a link to their sites...which may or may not provide a clue about whats going on on the weekend.
The site is best viewed in: 1024 x 768 screen resolution settings....
And best viewed in maximised screen mode: PRESS F11 !!....

US/CA: Canada Immigration website gets 6x traffic increase following dubya victory! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3987697.stm

US vote boosts interest in Canada
Canadian immigration officials said the number of US citizens visiting their website went up six-fold the day after the US election.
Their website, which on an average day has some 20,000 hits, was visited by 115,016 on Wednesday, Reuters news agency reported.
The figure dropped on Thursday but was still higher than normal, at 65,803.
There was speculation that Democrats fed up with George W Bush's win were thinking of moving over the border.
The idea of disgruntled Americans wishing to emigrate north across the border has amused Canadians.
One commentator, Thane Burnett, wrote a tongue-in-cheek guide to possible new citizens.
"As Canadians, you'll have to learn to embrace and use all the products and cultures of Americans, while bad-mouthing their way of life," he wrote in the Ottawa Sun newspaper.
Hundreds of Canadians have also signed up to a satirical website urging them to do their bit and marry an American.
"Open your heart, and your home. Marry an American," AFP news agency quotes www.marryanamerican.ca as saying.
"Legions of Canadians have already pledged to sacrifice their singlehood to save their southern neighbours from four more years of cowboy conservatism."
New high
"When we looked at the first day after the election... our website hit a new high, almost double the previous record high," said Immigration ministry spokeswoman Maria Iadinardi.
Canada has a large-scale immigration policy, and Ms Iadinardi said Canada would welcome all new applicants - whether they be Democrats or Republicans.
"Let's face it, we have a population of little over 32 million and we definitely need permanent residents to come to Canada," she was quoted by Reuters as saying.
But she said it would take about six months to find out if there had been an increase in applications.
"There is no unusual activity occurring at our visa missions (in the US). Having someone who intends to come to Canada is not the same as someone actually putting in an application," she said.
Canada could find itself attracting more gay couples from the US after a Saskatchewan court ruled in favour of homosexual marriages on Friday.
The prairie province joins five other provinces and one territory in Canada by declaring existing marriage laws discriminate against gay couples and are unconstitutional.
Earlier this week, 11 US states voted to ban gay marriage in referendums held on the same night as the election.
