Unlocking a contract phone? hey guyz, basically i've run out of funds to pay my contract phone. There's no way i can afford the bloody thing which works out at at least two times the supposed monthly bill so i've put a stop on the direct debits to stop the hefty bank charges. They've now cut of the contract for obvious reasons. I'm jst going to fuck them off so to speak but I was wondering is it possible to have the handset unlocked so i can waz a p.a.y.t. sim into it?
Also, when i embarked on this foolish mission, i had my telephone number of 3 years (p.a.y.t) transfered onto the contract. I wouldn't mind keeping hold of that badboy as well. DO they have to provide me with the code so i can have the number transfered back to a p.a.y.t sim?
basically is that number my legal possesion?
my handset in a sony walkman w580i btw
thanks

crappy mobile phones i only succumbed to mobile phones about 3 years ago (i still don't have a TV)
i love technology, but i also love freedom from technology
the first one i got seemed quite good after all. i found it on a beach and tried to give it back, but the owner never got back to me. £5 of credit later and i started using it. it turned out to be handy. I could do stuff like leaving directions to where to find me on an answerphone without it being traceable to my home address :groucho:
then i got a contract and with it a free phone. the advantage of this was that every year i got a new one sent to me for free that i could sell on ebay for enough to cover the cost of my contract :weee:
then i made the mistake of trying to use one of the phones i was sent... a samsung E900. :yakk:
anyone else out there who has used one of these might understand why i regretted it. something simple, like talking to someone on the phone, becomes a pain in the ass when the touch sensative 'cancel' button brushes against your face and cuts you off. i could go on
i started to feel a lot better yesterday when i smashed the thing to bits raaa
then i found this

My theory: the government is offloading these twittering handheld crapstones on to as many people as possible in a bid to whip us all into a state of perpetual, simmering anger in readiness for some kind of bare-knuckle street war. Don't say I didn't warn you.

mobile phones I'm with vodaphone(.nl) who seem generally good with very helpful customer service (unheard of in this country) but there are no providers here that offer cheap SMS to overseas numbers which is a bit of a killer.
Sooo, I've been on a SIM only contract for a while but I changed to a proper contract and new phone (a sony k800i) yesterday after realising it was cheaper...
What phone and provider are you on? And how do you rate them?
Vodaphone think they can help themselves to your unused credit I mislaid my mobile SIM for a while and Vodaphone have deactivated it and annexed my credit balance....:get_you::get_you::get_you::get_you: It was pay as you go and I did use it as the signal for other networks round here is very poor - wont waste my money on another one - thats for sure.
Anyone know if they are allowed to do this and how I complain about it?
They seem to think it perfectly ok to do that - what if, as happened many times, I was using it for emergency calls?
playing tunes on mobile phone speakers why do people do this nowadays?
mobile phones are small and will have rubbish speakers for audio... if people are going to play music in the street they should use proper ghetto blasters :laugh_at:
LOST PHONE @ PLANET Y i know the chances of any body finding it, indeed anybody finding it who regualy posts on here are slim to none but i fort i post it anyhow.

Ancient Phone Networks Ancient Phone Networks
After digging to a depth of 100 meters last year, Russian scientists
found traces of copper wire dating back 1000 years, and came to the
conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network one
thousand years ago.
So, not to be outdone, in the weeks that followed, American scientists
dug 200 meters and headlines in the US papers read:
'US scientists have found traces of 2000 year old optical fibres, and
have concluded that their ancestors already had advanced high-tech
digital telephone 1000 years earlier than the Russians.'
One week later, the Israeli newspapers reported the following:
'After digging as deep as 500 meters, Israeli scientists have found
absolutely nothing. They have concluded that 5000 years ago, their
ancestors were already using wireless technology.
LOL – check this – old skool mobile phones! years ago I did work experience with BT and there were a load of the old system 4 sets out the back (they had finally got to "hand portables" which were about the size of a brick, like the other early analogue phones)
you had to be really rich or important to afford one of these...
