UK : England : NW : England’s first guide cat! I've personally seen younger cats help older ones (which like humans become less mobile and agile) to find easy ways of getting into gardens (this was one reasion why I put up the catcam) and read about dogs who guide senior dogs and humans together (some breeds used for guide dogs suffer eyesight deterioration in old age!) but this is the first guide cat I've head about.. raaa

Catcam video These two cats belong to the neighbours - they may be from the same house though the black and white one has also encouraged an old stray cat into the garden and was even showing the senior cat (like people they can have mobility problems as they age) where there are gaps in the fence that do not require as much physical exertion.
As it is illegal and unethical to covertly record audio outside your house unless there is a real security threat the soundtrack is mute - I originally uploaded it with a soundtrack of cat-related piratenmuziek but the track from the Dutch group "The Cats" got blocked from Germany and also prevented from embedding - so the two EDM tracks are some random hardstyle track from around 2008 called "Like a cat" followed by Felix da Housecat

UK : LDN : S : Prisoners in HMP Wormwood Scrubs scared to leave cells due to rats. Lads today really are going soft - in the 80s/90s if you were in HMP and there were rats prisoners often fed them and treated them as pets (it is illegal but if you're already in jail that isn't a big deal...) ; and threatened to wreck the place if the screws harmed the rodents in any way....

DE : German Protestant churchgoers and Polizei menaced by Egyptian Geese! In spite of their name, these geese (physically smaller than Canada geese but more aggressive to strangers particularly during breeding season) are not recent migrants; wild populations descended from those imported by middle class folk decades ago as ornamental birds are often found throughout Northern Europe.
This is the first time I've ever heard of an incident like this - not sure what exactly the churchgoers were doing that disturbed the goose family to such an extent - it appears the church involved is nowhere near any rivers/ponds) - it may simply be they were all travelling there in motor cars rather than on foot or by bicycle as the Police had to block the roads and the Fire Brigade escorted the geese to somewhere safer...

UK : Scot : Do not hunt these geese, it is illegal it is also illegal to use lead shot in Scotland (as the geese and other creatures eat it and can get ill). As Greylag and Pink Footed Geese look similar I can see how they could be misidentified..

NL : A European wildcat spotted in Brabant! These cats are (as their name suggests) native animals but pure bred ones are nowadays increasingly confined to remote parts of Northern Europe (there are a few in Scotland). The Dutch nature societies regularly put up cameras and electronic tracking gadgets in the woods to check what animals are in there.
This is what they found in the woods

It was once commonly believed that hybrids of the wild cat and domestic cat (itself often a hybrid of Felis x Prionailurus spp, Prionailurus being the small Asian wild cats) are untameable; this is untrue although it is mostly strong minded human females in matriarchal/feminist communities who can tame the kittens (there are a lot of these hybrids as pet cats in some parts of Northern England/Scotland, NL and DE ;) )

UK : NW : GMP sent on wild goose chase as geese invade Manchester… An unusual sight on a fast road; but it may have flown across from the nearby River Irwell or one of its tributaries...
Police were called tonight after a goose on the loose in the city centre forced a motorist to swerve across Mancunian Way.
The feathered troublemaker flew in front of a vehicle on one of Manchester city centre’s busiest routes at around 9.15pm.
And the driver, who luckily was unhurt, alerted police to the danger after narrowly avoiding hitting the feckless fowl.
DS Dave Henshall, from the city centre’s policing team, then tweeted out a warning to other motorists to be wary of any winged dangers.

NL : Latest video from goose paradise, Groningen Commentary is in Dutch; if you do not understand this Chögal Trizin Hof (hope I spelt his name correctly!) is explaining how the Buddhist animal sanctuary operates (although he started off with geese it is a multi species sanctuary). The Egyptian goose (a relatively new arrival at the sanctuary although increasingly a common migrant to Northern Europe) is not the easiest species to befriend either!
