DK : Cat vs Mouse
Taken from here.
Devil in disguise - a set on Flickr
The cat is a female Ragdoll - a popular breed in Scandinavia - it is claimed they are very peaceful and docile and are good family pets, but she apparently spent 2 hours playing with the mouse before eventually eating it.
This is unusual in other Oriental breeds, who do not usually play with mice or anything they catch, they just eat them (though mice and rats are a bit more hardcore in Asia, there are 50 different kinds too)
US : CO : bear very carefully breaks into candy store the woman who owns the store says he ate a lot of candy, but didn't trash anything or make a mess. She doesn't want the feds/hunters/wildlife controll to shoot at the bear because its normal to get bears in that area and she had accidentally left the store insecure due to a defective door bolt.

Hi, NKLA is newbie here
We are a coalition of animal rescue organizations, city shelters and passionate individuals. Led by Best Friends Animal Society, we're dedicated to ending the killing of healthy and treatable pets in L.A. shelters. Our plan is straightforward. Provide spay/neuter services where they are needed most so fewer animals go into shelters, and increase adoptions through the combined efforts of the NKLA coalition so more animals come out of the shelters and go into new homes.
SG : Singapore allows pit bull terriers! Out of curiosity was looking at dog licensing in Singapore - last time I checked they had outright bans on certain breeds but they now allow them provided (strict) conditions are followed....
There are also other obvious reasons why it is in the interests of a medium size dog in an Oriental nation to behave well and pass the obedience tests ;)
Part I Scheduled Dogs
1. Dogs must be leashed and securely muzzled when in a public place
2. Dogs must be microchipped
3. Dogs must be sterilised if over six months of age
4. The owner must take up an insurance policy for at least $100,000 coverage against injury to persons and damage to property
5. The owner must take up banker’s guarantee of $5,000
6. Any existing banker’s guarantee would be forfeited for non-compliance and the owner must take up a fresh banker’s guarantee of $5,000.
7. Newly licensed dogs must undergo obedience training
(Note : With effect from 15 Nov 2010, the existing 22 licensed Perro de Presa Canario will be moved from Part II to Part I of the Schedule. There are no other Part I dogs in Singapore.)

UK : SE : Luckiest cat in Reading I found this when I was looking for info on flounders (to convince daftfader that such fish actually existed) - and forgot to share it..

To be fair it makes sense that DF had not yet encountered them, as they are seasonal, quite expensive, and his bit of the Thames/North Sea was until recently way too filthy for them to thrive. The reason eels were once popular food in London is that it was all you could find in the Thames which was a open sewer (its a bit better now these days)/
Anyway a few years ago when I lived in Reading, this big tabby tom cat would always wander in and out of shared houses and squats in East Reading. I'd see him nearly everywhere, he was very friendly and I wondered if he was someones pet, a stray, and what happened to him..
Anyway it turns out this fish company run a animal sanctuary - he got picked up by them and is living there now!
(He is Anthony on the list of animals)

that has to be really good luck for a cat, to be taken in by a sanctuary run by a fish shop :laugh_at:
Could you walk a dog everyday? So had to look after my families dogs this week and everytime i take them out to this field (the only field i know which is around this area) they go and get soaked in a dirty stream and then i have to wash them and dry them. to me this is not worth the hassle of having dogs at all.
Could/can you be bothered to look after a dog or dogs?12
Pinned
Wasps!!!! Is anyone else mortally afraid of them? I got stung when I was a child, got ambushed by 5 of them and all stung me on my hand (as I was eating an ice-cream). Ever since then I have had a proper fear of them.
I thought I had gotten better but having just had 10 of the little buggers chase me around the garden I realise my fear has never left me.
Anyone else agree or am I just being a giant pussy? :weee:

Germaine Greer on dogs ave a word !
............... “At the risk of making you all very cross, may I suggest that it is time the British gave up on their endless love affair with the dog,” she told an audience at the Telegraph Hay Festival.
Greer argues that the move is necessary in order to protect the English bluebell. “Even the most proactive woodland organisations like the Woodland Trust do not dare to say to dog walkers - who are about the only people who care about our woods - they don’t dare to say to them that they may not bring their dogs into the wood.”
Greer, who owns her own bluebell wood said phosohorous in dog faeces changes the chemical environment and kills off essential fungi.
The author and feminist would also, it seems, have us removed from the woods. “The real threat to our bluebells,” she said, "is the use we make of the woodlands - people running through them, taking photos of each other standing on trampled bluebells.”
"If you love your bluebells kill your dog," she added dramatically.
I will not be killing my dog !

US : MA : Cat ordered to do jury service.. "And the cats go to court in Massachusetts..."
A cat has been summoned to do jury service after his owners registered him on a state census form.
A letter was sent to the cat, who was listed in the pets section of the census, by a court in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
Owner Anna Esposito wrote to the court asking for exemption as tabby Sal is "unable to speak and understand English". Anna even included a letter from her vet confirming that the cat was ‘a domestic short-haired neutered feline’.
However, the request was refused by a jury commissioner and Anna was told that Sal 'must attend' Suffolk Superior Crown Court.
Anna says: "Sal is a member of the family so I listed him on the last census form under pets but there has clearly been a mix-up."
If Sal's application for disqualification is denied, he is expected in court on 23 March.

Pug Hair Got a pug last year but never realized how much they shed. Hairs bloody everywhere! Anyone have any suggestions on how to reduce this. I already brush her every other day and give her oil supplements but to no avail.
