Interesting Article / Blog About the Met and Ian Tomlinson check it out.

I have no doubt that you will already be aware by now that Ian Tomlinson, who was simply walking home from work, not being disruptive, and not attacking the police or anyone else in any way whatsoever, and simply strolling along with his hands in his pockets was viciously shoved to the ground by a Metropolitan Police officer, and died of a heart attack a few minutes later.

G20 Police Officer Suspended BBC NEWS | England | London | G20 police officer is suspended
Quote:
The officer captured on video apparently pushing a man during the G20 protests in London has been suspended, police have said.
Ian Tomlinson, 47, died from a heart attack minutes after the incident on 1 April, near the Bank of England.
The Metropolitan Police suspended the officer after the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) called for that action to be taken.
The IPCC has launched a criminal investigation into the death.
Is the IPCC not effectively run by the fucking police?
It needs to be a criminal investigation in my opinion. If somebody had twatted someone whilst out pissed and then that person had a heart attack a minute later, he'd be done for manslaughter.
The fact that it was a policeman who is supposed to be restrained and not some random person makes it all the worse imo.
BNP Member List on Wikileaks I'm sure plenty of people have seen this already, but for those who've been curious:

It's interesting reading the discussion page on Wiki Leaks about that actually, people are expressing their disgust against Wiki Leaks for finding friends names on there even though they like Wiki Leaks (when it doesn't involve someone they know).. hypocritical cocks.
Power Protestors Released on Bail Glad they are out on bail - I still don't think any attempt to disrupt or even shut down an operational power station (which has happened before) is a good idea. We are so lucky in this nation that the Grid is fairly robust; but why make things worse to prove a political point?
Police release 114 held for suspected power station protest released on bail | Environment | guardian.co.uk
I can forgive people with a liberal arts or even biological science background initially not knowing the engineering issues why making power stations shut down isn't a good idea - but I'm old enough to remember regular power cuts - in many cases caused by workers "making a stand" and taking direct action by striking
The net result was people went to the ballot box and voted in Thatcho, who privatised the power companies and ultimately made things far worse (many were working on renewable energy projects in 1986/87, all of which were eventually shelved due to the new commercial pressures on the former Electricity Boards)
I bet if a bunch of yoghurt weavers went into somewhere like Tranzmission and turned off all the electric as it was a "frivolous use of energy" and said "we should all listen to hippies with guitars and drums" they would need the Met to escort them out for their own safety!
However it doesn't let the rest of us off the hook as we do all need to conserve power - otherwise for both commercial and environmental reasons we may reach a time where it it will be done for us.
Bear in mind that its possible to shut off the 'leccy for 2-3 hours in all areas without risking the contents of everyones freezers from defrosting - in the medium term it would be a straightforward if unpopular measure for the authorities and the power companies to enforce rolling blackouts around 01:00 - 04:00 - which could be easily be linked in with curfews on nightlife "in the interests of public safety".
G20 protest responses and a divided nation.. As tragic as the death of Ian Tomlinson is I'm concerned that the media spotlight is being diverted away from the other events at G20 such as the violent closing down of the Climate Camp
Of course this has been criticised in the "progresssive" media such as the Grauniad - but its well known that they encourage the young middle class year 12/13 students (think I got it right this time :laugh_at:) and university students to attend these protests "just like their parents did back in the day"
but elsewhere I've rightly seen condemnation of the Police actions against the late Mr Tomlinson; but many of the mainstream the media and worse, many of the citizen commentators all seem to think that it whilst it was wrong for the Met to beat up a newspaper vendor doing his job (ironically, selling papers known for their Conservative-leaning views!) - there has been far less condemnation of violent action against "real" protestors...
Today in the East Midlands, the cops have arrested 80-100 people in a place called Sneinton who were allegedly going on a protest to shut down a power station.
These arrests happened in a residential area; I am not aware of any such area in the country easily able to house 80-100 protestors at short notice unless they hired a community centre or similar - the cops are refusing to give out any details but either they have arrested 100 mostly "normal" local people just as a warning ; or worse a mixed contingent of protestors from outside and locals was dobbed in by a (minority!) of locals due to disagreement over whether the protestors should have been sheltered in this area.
That said whilst I agree with genuine peaceful protest outside power stations, I don't agree with untrained protestors activating emergency shutdown procedures - as to get a power station back on line and re-synced with the Grid after doing this uses more energy, and as much as everyone wants to be eco-friendly we all depend on electric particularly if we are into dance music as well..
Guide to public order situations
Quote:
The Public Order Act 1986 provides the police with powers to arrest people who engage in disorderly, threatening or insulting behaviour. This is the lowest level of public order offence designed to cover minor acts of hooliganism but does not cover behaviour that includes violence or threats of violence. Many of the anti-social behaviour concerns of ASB practitioners will come within the ambit of Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986.
Offences under s5 of the Public Order Act 1986
Section 5 makes it a criminal offence to use threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress by that behaviour. There must be a victim present at the scene for this offence to be made out.
Disorderly behaviour includes:
causing a disturbance in a residential area;
persistently shouting abuse or obscenities at passers-by;
rowdy behaviour in a street late at night;
using slogans or language that cause distress.
Threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour includes:
threats or abuse directed at individuals carrying out public service duties;
throwing missiles;
minor violence or threats of violence;
incidents between neighbours that do not justify a charge of assault;
an individual who is picked on by a gang where the behaviour does not justify an assault charge.
Before the police have the power to arrest a person for this offence, the offender must first be warned about the behaviour and can only be arrested if the behaviour is repeated. The offence is a summary only offence punishable by a Level 3 fine in the magistrates' court or a penalty notice for disorder (PND) where appropriate.
Guide to Public Order Situations
Quote:
The aim of this guide is not to show you how to conduct a riot. Neither is it intended as a critque on the pros and cons of fighting with the police.
(Just for the record: the authors believe history has proven that engaging with the police on their terms is not likely to result in lasting social change).
What we present here instead, is a brief guide to surviving public order situations, and slowing down or preventing the police from gaining the upper hand once a situation has occurred.
Bear in mind that the police are much better equiped and trained for close combat than you or I. They will have been psyching themselves up for hours, have plenty of reserves standing by and will feel confident with the law behind them. Beating the police is about outwitting them, not necessarily hitting them over the head.
UK : MP goes on country-wide train journey About time too, maybe he will realise what a national disgrace our rail service has become, especially the prices.
Frustrated commuters will get direct access to Transport Minister Lord Adonis when he embarks upon a six-day rail voyage across Britain.
The minister will board the Paddington to Truro sleeper on Easter Monday - armed with his laptop and a £375 standard class Rail Rover ticket.
On Saturday he will reach York after a 2,200-mile trip taking him as far north as Inverness.
Lord Adonis said he wanted "first-hand experience" of the rail service.
He told the BBC the trip was "deadly serious" and not just a publicity exercise.

Teachers to Vote on SATs Boycott
BBC NEWS | Education | Teachers to vote on Sats boycott
Quote:
Teachers to vote on Sats boycott
About 600,000 11-year-olds are preparing for Sats in May
Teachers are expected to back a boycott of Sats tests for children aged seven and 11 in England - unless ministers agree to scrap the exams.
National Union of Teachers members, meeting in Cardiff for their annual conference, are preparing to vote on planned joint action with headteachers.
Union leaders say the tests are damaging to pupils and demean staff.
Fair play to the NUT in my opinion. I don't like the system of exams anyway, as I have little confidence in formal education and the idea of a pass or fail fixed achievement, I like the idea of personal achievement.
However that isn't going to happen, but dropping exams for 7 and 11 year olds is definately a good move. I know there's a huge push for education at a higher standard but there are ways of doing this and measuring it without making a 7 year old sit an exam.
George Bush is a Sith lord! I was watching star wars 3 last night when something frightening occured to me:
George Bush: Address to a Joint Session of Congress and the American People
United States Capitol - Washington, D.C.
THE PRESIDENT: Mr. Speaker, Mr. President Pro Tempore, members of Congress, and fellow Americans:
In the normal course of events, (blah, blah, blah)...
... We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest.
And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make.
Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. (Applause.) From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.

OBI-WAN flings off his cloak.
OBI-WAN: (continuing) You have allowed this Dark Lord to twist your mind until now . . . until now you have become the very thing you swore to destroy.
They circle each other until OBI-WAN is near PADME. He places his hand on her.
ANAKIN: Don't lecture me, Obi-Wan. I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace, justice, freedom, and security to my new Empire.
OBI-WAN: Your new Empire?
ANAKIN: Don't make me kill you.
OBI-WAN: Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic ... to democracy.
ANAKIN: If you're not with me, you're my enemy.
OBI-WAN: Only a Sith Lord deals in absolutes. I will do what I must.
(ignites his lightsaber)
ANAKIN: You will try.
ANAKIN ignites his lightsaber.
Quotes of the Week "I wonder on what basis anyone can say condoms makes AIDS worse. The Pope must be either stupid, ignorant or dim. If people take his words seriously he will be responsible for the deaths of thousands." -- Prof. Richard Dawkins attacks Pope Benedict's stand on condom use in Africa.
Racism in the Workplace (and Proxy Racism) Just found out from my girlfriend that a new employee at her workplace (small sales company) passed a seriously offensive racist comment. When she quizzed him about it to see if he was serious she found out he votes BNP.
She took it to her boss to say that she wasn't really happy about what was said etc and he brushed it off and didn't care. Which, to me, is proxy racism.
Anyone know the laws behind this. It's essentially accepting racist behaviour in the workplace. My girlfriend is of uk origin so she is "safe" from this twat, but her workmate is half asian origin. She is actually on holiday today so maybe he has been holding back his hate and spite until now.
The Police Want Your Kettle! Disposing of your old kettle in an environmentally friendly way is difficult. Since the police seem to like kettles so much help them out by sending your old kettle to:
Metropolitan Police Service
New Scotland Yard
Broadway
London
SW1H 0BG
Pass the idea on to anyone you know who has an old kettle they want to get rid of or who wants to protest against police tactics. A few thousand kettles should restrict their mobility somewhat.

Even better dont put any postage on it and hopefully the police should get a nice bill form the postie!
Blair Steps Up Fight to be "Crowned" First ‘PRESIDENT of EU’
Quote:
Tony Blair has emerged as the leading candidate to become the first permanent president of the European Union after Gordon Brown gave his grudging blessing to the plan. The former prime minister has stepped up his campaign for the job, which he wants to use to build a bridge between Europe and the new Obama administration.
His return to the global stage would be a shock to his critics over the Iraq war and dismay many in Europe.
But The Independent on Sunday has learnt that Mr Brown has accepted that his old rival should be in pole position for the appointment, on the basis that Britain needs to have a key figure in the architecture of the "new world order".
