UK : SE : Campaign to save Glade Festival 2007 Hello!
This is incredibly important if you all want to go to Glade Festival this year. The time has come to start emailing West Berkshire council in support of Glade. I am going to copy the email i have been sent in here and at this point it would be brilliant if as many people as possible were to write to the email addresses on there.
Thank you!!
Ok Chaps, this is your time to do a bit. Please email Brian Leahy on the first email address below, copy it to the editor at the Newbury. Do your own individual email that covers these points.
bleahy@westberks.gov.uk
editor@newburynews.co.uk
The Festival is a safe event, the safest festival you have ever attended, all the local people you have spoken to and the festival goers all want the festival to happen. It is good news for the local community. West Berkshire is lucky to have the opportunity to host the event and it would be very sad if it didn’t happen. Everyone you have spoken to has said that it was NOT a noise nuisance locally.
Please word this in your own words, do not just copy what I have said.
Please send this onto everyone on your messenger/contact list and ask them ALL to blind copy me in so that I can have an idea of the support we have been able to give.
Please can you start hustling as many letters / emails as possible to brian leahy - now is the time - the more letters we get the more chance we got - it is still very much in the balance right now.
It is definitely always a help to send the letters also to the newspapers. (Newbury Weekly News)
There no standard letter format to follow - in fact if the council think people are just cutting and pasting the same letter they all get discounted - the letters have to be individually written.
However, if the supporters could write in and say that
a) they think the event is a benefit to the people and businesses of the local area and presents no problems with crime for the local area.
b) that they do not believe it is a noise disturbance to the local area - this is a key point and should appear somewhere in each letter if possible.
If they word it in their own way it would be better.
It is also better to keep the letters relatively short and sweet - the main two points are above.
The TVP at Glade? +/- ? is this something to worry about? ive got shitted up by threads on this forum and some mates saying they are total cunts and have in the past swabbed people going into festivals and acted outside the law at legal events and even worse at illegal ones..? they are also suposed to have a presence inside the fest is this gonna be bad news?
Glade was wonderin if anyone is plannin fence-jumpin glade and if it is easy, i really wanna go but it'll have to be fence-jump for 2 reasons...
1. i'm real skint after glasto
2. this
We have a policy of no teenagers at the Glade. The reason for this is because we feel that teenagers can be difficult and often will not be accompanied by an adult. However, with children under 13 that will not be the case. So children 12 and under are very welcome and can come in for free with their parents/guardians. 13-17 are not allowed in at all. 18 and over must have a valid ticket. Anyone who looks in any way that they may be under 18 will be asked for ID and if they do not have or are under 18 (or over 12!) will not be admitted to the festival...
wont go into the whole stereotypin thing it's there call, but it means it's hit-and-miss if i buy a ticket...
so yeah, basically just wonderin how hard fence-jumpin is and anythin about it really123
Glade Roll Call I know its been done before but as we near an almost sell out for this years glade I'm curious to know who's going and who you're most looking forward to seeing.
I reckon I'm gonna steer well away from the bangface tent this year, rekon itll be proper packed.
other than that i'm up for everything

Glade Licence For those interested,
This is Glade Festival approved application ... through the good the bad and the ugly here it is .... i was in touch with vicky wheatley, she kindly mailed this to me the day after itd been approved. So here it is for persons wanting to have a look ...
APPLICATION NUMBER: 017712
Premises Licence Application - Transitional with Variation
SITE: The Glade Festival. Wasing Estate, Aldermaston, Reading. RG7 4NJ.
I write to inform you that the Licensing Sub-Committee has now determined this application, and it has been APPROVED with conditions as detailed below. In coming to their decision the Sub-Committee had first to consider the four objectives of the Licensing Act:
1.Prevention of Crime and Disorder;
2.Public Safety;
3.Prevention of Public Nuisance; and
4.Protection of Children from Harm.
In this instance the Committee felt that adequate provision had been made in respect of these objectives, subject to the conditions as in the operating schedule, any relevant mandatory conditions in ss 19 – 21 of the Licensing Act 2003 and the following variations:
(1) The Glade Noise Team shall carry out a survey to determine the background noise levels, LA90 (15 minutes) covering the typical week/weekend period for the Festival. The background noise levels to be monitored at noise sensitive locations to be agreed with West Berkshire Licensing Authority 2 months before the event. The information obtained from this survey shall be made available to the Licensing Authority 2 months before the event.
REASON: After hearing the Applicants and the Environmental Health representations, the Sub-Committee were persuaded that a statutory public nuisance had been created at the 2005 and 2006 Glade Festivals. The Applicants at the 2006 Hearing of their application had persuaded the Sub-Committee that they had sufficient control measures in place to prevent a statutory public nuisance at the 2006 event, however this proved not to be the case. On this basis the Sub-Committee believe stricter controls imposed in this condition are necessary to prevent a third statutory public nuisance being created.
(PREVENTION OF PUBLIC NUISANCE).
(2) Noise levels from the operation of the Glade Festival 2007 during the hours of 09:00 – 23:00 shall not exceed 45dB LAeq (15 minutes) and 70dB at 63Hz and 125Hz octave frequency bands, when measured 1 metre from the façade of noise sensitive properties. The noise levels to be monitored at noise sensitive locations to be agreed with West Berkshire Licensing Authority 2 months before the event.
The Applicants agreed at the Hearing that daytime levels of sound would end at 23:00 hours and their sound expert, Mr Jim Griffiths, advised that they could provide real time sound monitoring rather than averaged every 15 minutes.
(PREVENTION OF PUBLIC NUISANCE).
(3) Noise levels from the operation of the Glade Festival 2007 during the hours of 23:00 – 09:00 shall not exceed the background noise level (LA90 (15 minutes)) plus 5dB, and 65dB at 63Hz and 125Hz octave frequency bands, when measured 1 metre away from the façade of noise sensitive properties. The noise levels to be monitored at noise sensitive locations to be agreed with West Berkshire Licensing Authority 2 months before the event.
(4) All exceedances of the noise limits to be recorded in a noise event log by the Glade Noise Team, and updated every 15 minutes. This data to be made available on demand to the Licensing Authority during the event, and also submitted to West Berkshire Licensing Authority 48 hours after closure of the event.
(5) By no later than 2 months before the event, agreement must be reached between the premise licence holder and Thames Valley Police as to the resources, facilities and special police services to be provided and paid for by the premise licence holder. A copy of this agreement is to be provided by the premise licence holder to West Berkshire Licensing Authority within 2 weeks of the agreement being concluded.
REASON: After hearing the representations from the Applicants and Thames Valley Police, the Sub-Committee were persuaded that the level of security and policing of the event were previously inadequate to effectively police this event and control crime; in particular in relation to drug supply, possession and use.
(PREVENTION OF CRIME AND DISORDER).
(6) A copy of the written agreement between the applicant and the South Central Ambulance NHS Trust regarding off site transfer to hospital, shall be supplied to West Berkshire Licensing Authority no more than 2 months before the event.
REASON: After hearing the representations from the Applicants and West Berkshire Environmental Health – Public Health team, the Sub-Committee were persuaded that this condition was necessary for public safety.
(PUBLIC SAFETY).
(7) Valid certification to operate lasers to be received from the HSE prior to operation and made available to West Berkshire Licensing Authority.
REASON: After hearing the representations from the Applicants and West Berkshire Environmental Health – Public Health team, the Sub-Committee were persuaded that this condition was necessary for public safety.
(PUBLIC SAFETY).
(8) The capacity of the venue is limited to a daily amount of 12,500 persons attending the Glade Festival 2007.
REASON: After hearing the representations from the Applicants, West Berkshire Environmental Health – Public Health team and Thames Valley Police, the Sub-Committee were persuaded that this condition was necessary for public safety as there would not be sufficient capacity at the other venues when the two main stages closed at 23:00 hours and to ensure the event is policeable.
(PUBLIC SAFETY and PREVENTION OF CRIME AND DISORDER).
You are of course entitled to appeal against this decision. Should you wish to do this you will need to write within 21 days of receipt of this letter to:

bad news about glade(possibly) here's some bad news glade .
hopfully it's still goin to happen but we'll have to wait & see
9pm, Friday 13th April...
Hello from all of us at the Glade...
As some of you may or may not know, we had the license hearing today. We were
expecting, as in previous years, to get a positive result this evening but the
council are undecided and will be informing us of their decision early next
week.
As a result, tickets will not be going on sale tomorrow (Saturday, 14th April)
as we don't want to sell tickets for an unlicensed festival! Please bear with us
for a few more days..
We're now not going to name a time for tickets going on sale until we have
received the decision from the council and so will be, as soon as we know,
sending out an eflyer to all people on the mailing list with a link to tickets.
We are also unable to announce the exact ticket price yet. There have been quite
a few enquiries asking if people on the mailing list will get early access to
tickets and we're going to take this opportunity to make that so...
So please keep an eye out for an email from us during the course of next week.
The tickets will not be shown as on sale through the website until 24 hours
after the eflyer has been sent!
The lineups we're not going to publish yet either. Again we will start
publishing this on the site as soon as we have a go from the council...
We hope you understand and we can't wait to move to the next stage of this
extraordinary journey...
Council rejects Glade 2007 application on a technicality :you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy
Quote:
GLADE festival organisers have run out of time to prepare this year’s event after the application was returned on technical grounds.
Organisers of the Wasing-based dance music festival said they were “disappointed and frustrated” at the decision by West Berkshire Council’s licensing chiefs to strike out the application on a technicality, as reported in last week’s Newbury Weekly News.
Festival team spokesman Luke Piper said: “A new application would mean another two months before a decision is made by the licensing committee.
“This would not leave the organisers sufficient time to prepare the event, especially with the new measures planned for noise control or to confirm acts to play at the event.”
To go ahead under such circumstances would “seriously risk the viability” of Glade, said Mr Piper.
Council licensing officer Brian Leahy said last week: “The regulations weren’t met - and the requirements are absolute.
“It was sent back on a point of law and not because of collusion between the responsible authorities and any outside parties.”
He said organisers were welcome to submit a fresh application.
But Mr Piper said: “The 400-page event management plan was the most comprehensive yet and the event has been put together with some of the top people and consultants in the country in the area of event management, noise and safety.
“It has been five months’ work preparing and planning the application with public meetings and consultation - but it was considered, six weeks after application, that the format of the application did not conform to the new licensing regulations.”
He added: “It does come as a surprise, as the authorities have generally been supportive in the past and we felt that any objections that had been made were being addressed.
“A lot of people had expressed their views and opinions and an agenda was sent out for a hearing at the council chambers. Two of the parish councils had not objected in principal and we have set up local planning committees to liaise more closely with local residents.”
The annual event turns over £1.5 million and generates grants to local village projects and charities worth up to £30,000 but some local residents oppose it due to noise nuisance claims.

Stuff we found at Glade My god, what a wicked festival.
I know loads of people are going to go on and on about the theiving/security problems but my attitude is, if you can't live without it, don't leave it in your tent...
Anyway, me and my BF have a small hand-held flourescent torch, which lights up a good circle while you are walking along... it diffuses the light too so you can see a lot. I bought it in Lidl for €2.99 (about £2)!
With this torch we found: Someone's ticket and credit card bill (you need ID to get into Glade) - we handed it into security. An eighth of weed... a bag with 3 pills in... a wrap of cocaine... £5... a CK belt... a hat... someone's credit cards which we also handed in... an ankle chain... and I know there was some other bits and pieces but I can't remember exactly what...!
Needless to say, there was a lot of very mashed people and we all lose stuff when we're mashed!
This torch gobbles batteries and a set of 4 AA's only lasts one night's walking about, luckily I had spares. The torch and the batteries paid for themselves several times over!
