A 16-year-old is accused of trying to stab another teenager to death during a rave at a squat.
He was charged with attempted murder after the youth suffered a punctured lung early on Sunday morning (December 2).
It is understood many of the revellers inside the disused building in Freehold Terrace, Brighton, were young teenagers.
People living in the street have complained to police about noise and anti-social behaviour since squatters moved into the former workshop about ten days ago.

Late on Saturday night (December 1), music, including hip hop and dubstep, began playing at the site and groups of young people arrived.
At about 2.30am an ambulance was called to treat a 16-year-old boy outside. It is believed he had been stabbed four times with a knife.
He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in a serious condition and was still being treated yesterday (December 4).
Two youths, both aged 16, were arrested between Sunday night and Monday morning.
One was charged with attempted murder and appeared at Brighton Youth Court yesterday.
He spoke only to confirm his name and age and was remanded in custody until December 11.
The second suspect was released on bail while the police investigation continues.

    Locked up
It is understood the site’s owners have now secured the building.
Though the gates were locked yesterday and some windows boarded up, broken panes were visible and the forecourt was scattered with glass and beer crates.
About five adults were said to have been living in the squat last week, but several of the people present at the time of the wounding were believed to have been under 16.
Patrick Benna, 31, whose girlfriend lives in Freehold Terrace, said he had seen drunk people going to the squat in the evenings during the week.
He said: “This weekend I saw lots of people going in.
“The music started at eleven or twelve.
“I heard windows smashing. There was lots of glass on the road this weekend.”
    Fire death
The police investigation comes just days after the death of a man in a fire in a boarded up squat in St George’s Terrace, Kemp Town, last Wednesday.
The dead man’s identity has not been released, but he is said to have been 40 or 41. His next of kin have not yet been informed.
A post-mortem was inconclusive and toxicology tests are being carried out to establish whether he had drugs or alcohol in his system.
A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson and released on bail without charge until January 14.
Mike Weatherley, Conservative MP for Hove, supported the recent criminalisation of squatting in residential properties and has called for the ban to be extended to commercial buildings.
After Sunday’s stabbing, he said: “I was upset to hear about this incident of extreme violence in a squat, which follows the sad recent case of a death in another.
“I can’t emphasise enough just how dangerous these buildings can be.”

    Poor lad

    16…so young!
Iv not heard about any of these parties they sound proper grimey.
    Hope the boy recovers ok.

RnB and dubstep. Sounds more like a chavvy scum fest to me than an inviting squat party. Still sympathy for the victim if he was an innocent reveler

    Nasty 🙁

Cheers i’ll remember to invite you to my partys in future

    XD

p0ly doesn’t avoid shitestep parties for no reason…

someone needs to go to one of those parties and spike their ching with lucy.

Or spike it with Asian swine flu

although I’m not too keen on rnb and can only tolerate some dubstep (there seems to be some newer less aggressive stuff becoming popular from Europe) I don’t think its fair to judge people simply on the muslc they like. OK many aspects of urban culture are more combative but there have been beatings, rapes and even killings at fully licensed events playing hard dance and UK hardcore and there are still two outstanding rape cases from Latitude in Suffolk which is supposed to be a middle class festival, and this year according to some lads what live on my estate there was so many fights / arrests that they left early because they felt uncomfortable (and I live on a Ipswich estate which once had a bit of a bad rep..)

in the early 2000s there was a squat party in Ipswich and there was a knifing and another lad drowned in the river, and the most popular music back then was euphoric trance and progressive house…

I don’t even think its simply young people to blame either as there were adults also present at the squat rave, and I meet perfectly well behaved teens and young adults at work and the radio station every few days.

if people want to be left alone by the authorities to party its up to them to behave well – one main argument the feds etc give for licensing is it makes people implent safety measures and think of how they should deal with incidents, and holds someone accountable for the overall safety of all present.

For instance what may seem like harsh laws in Suffolk and Essex only occurred after the night time venues were plagued by repeated incidents of serious violence – during the 90s and early 00s they were as buzzing as Brighton…

what pisses me off more is that squatters in Brighton seem to have already fucked things up for the rest of the county with residential squats and got the law changed and if they carry on at this rate the current govt might well force through a law criminalising all trespass, as other EU nations have done it without breaching human rights (even though they claim not to support the EU as much….)

Indeed, the squatters down here always push eveything to the limit and hardly ever leave unless the cops are literally kicking them out. No wonder the gov are stepping u the laws to criminal trespass. Dumb dumbs

My assumption that it was all chav orchestrated is not only the music but the smashing of the windows and predominantly the stabbing.

As for the early 2000 squat stabbing that GL mentioned that’s when pills had started to go shit and people were back on the marching powder like the era before xtc. Except the coke was/still is a fraction of the quality it was during its reign. And we all know that it doesn’t take much to take a coke head from cloud 9 to psycho.

I’m northern though so perhaps that’s irrelevant to the Southern scenario.

I THOUGHT BRIGHTON WOULD HAVE MORE BRIGHT PEOPLE?

    HOW BRIGHT IS BRIGHTON?

I’m still comin’ down though, need you guys to arrange a date for a meet up though I have no clue what to do there but stay at my good oldskool girl mates place and party but I want the southern southern south south pv possee to meet me on their turf and show me their glocks and AKs… YA KNAA WA I’M SAYIN, SHERM, PCP MAYN

Even in 1999/2000 there were still good drugs to be had, at least in the South and East.

TBH it was better than the old days of the early 90s but the issue was there were more drugs and people combining them in greater amounts. And drugs shouldn’t be blamed any more than music – it is people not being able to behave well in groups which is the problem here.

Brighton isn’t even that bad a place but it is still very near London and seen as a easy target for wannabe plastic gangsters.

those plastic gangsters can be more of an annoyance tho cos they’re just jumped up little dumb chavs… A real gangster isn’t the sort of mug to come start pointless beef on the street they’re gonna hustle and sort out serious shit… obviously if you get on the wrong side of them they’re much more dodgy but tbh who goes starting shit with mental London gangsters? hope you get what i’m saying.

As for brighton try and find something to do in Feb. Sadly my NL gyal can’t come on NYE so i’m going NL in Jan and am pretty booked up then.

Well it was just outside moulscoomb which is a pretty ganky ghetto. (where izbeckistan is from) So you can imagine the type of people you get around there.
