The Autobots Profile
Tom and Jez, collectively known as nu-skool breaks DJ’s/Producers ‘The AutØbØts’, have established themselves on a worldwide stage, with their instantly recognizable blend of tearing basslines and funky breaks.
Their label ‘Broke Recordings’ won the coveted ‘Breakthru Label’ award at this years ‘Breakspoll’ award ceremony @ Fabric in London, whilst Broke’s sister label ‘Brock Out’ currently offers a platform for emerging artists to nurture their talents in a professional environment.
There’s been a slight change in Management at the label, with Mark (Deep Impact) having left the managerial side, in order to concentrate on other work commitments.
However, we look forward to more quality Broke material from him, sometime next year and wish him the best of luck in his new endeavours.
‘Broke’ recordings are consistently found in the record bags and boxes of a wide range of globally recognized artists such as The Plump Djs, Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors, and ourselves as well as thousands of other professional DJ’s and enthusiasts alike.
But it was a nice surprise to hear Fat Boy Slim A.K.A Norman Cook close his set at Global, in front of a 30,000 strong crowd, with ‘Burn’ (The AutØbØts recent collaboration with HB’s Screwface, Featuring MC Navigator on vocals).
The labels have also featured on dozens of Radio stations worldwide, including regular plays on BBC Radio1 (Zane Lowe, Annie Nightingale, etc.) as well as countless plays on the many online internet radio stations.
In terms of gigs, The AutØbØts have racked up hundreds over the last 4 years, many in their homeland UK, at clubs and events such as Eargasm @ Fabric, Breakspoll, Raindance, Spectrum, Beatworx, and many others, not forgetting their residency @ Fuse in Manchester.
They also made appearances at Reading and Guildford festivals in 2003, and Glastonbury in 2004 as well as V Festival and The Glade in 2005.
Abroad, the ‘bØts have played all over the world incorporating countries such as Japan, Russia, Czech Republic, Spain (over 30 times, including performing to 10,000 people at the Esparrago festival), Canada and 10 tours of the USA, including 4 appearances @ Winter Music Conference, in Miami.
These regular international excursions have helped to extended The AutØbØts global appeal and the duo is subsequently attracting interest from all quarters.
Aside from the Autobots, Tom also moonlights as Bez’s (Happy Mondays) DJ partner, and regularly gigs worldwide with the freaky dancer.
