One Tribe is starting a campaign to stop trains loaded with nuclear waste from passing through central London. Both Green Peace and the Mayor of London have published separate reports stressing the importance of diverting the trains away from heavily populated areas and tunnels (due to the high risk of fire and extremely high temperature). However, still nothing is being done about it.

Our Objective is to persuade the government to ban:
    – All nuclear waste Trains from passing through heavily populated areas.
    – All nuclear waste Trains from passing through tunnels.

good luck with this event; one of these trains goes via the railway I can see at the back of my house (probably from sizewell)

    C u there….
..and don’t forget to tell your friends…

i don;t want to take away from the great stuff you are doing, but it seems a little parochial

in the past i climbed onto rural railway embankments and took photos of trains moving nuclear waste to highlight how vulnerable a target they could be for trrrrists or simply for nuclear accidents

i got pretty freaked out by seeing military men in nuclear suits, carrying machine guns (the first time i ever saw a machine gun) posted along the outside of the train. they shone intense spotlights on us and we got away with our hands up. one friend (who is now a local politician) was arrested and questioned about possible terror connections by the cops, although the only ‘evidence’ they had was that he attended friends of the earth and CND meetings…

i don’t get why there would be a specific campaign about moving nuclear waste through built up areas?? why not concentrate all campaigning activities on the current ‘debate’ about building new nuclear reactors to replace oil and gas fired stations, especially as momentum has been gained with the high court decision that the govt consultation on the issue was bullshit, and bearing in mind that the issue, if lost, will mean there is a whole load of additional waste to be transported (and never disposed of)

after all, if there’s more waste, there’s a greater possibility of an accident, which will be serious whether it’s in a rural or a built up area. radio active waste has a habit of being uncontained
