Let’s continue this thread December 22nd 2012 yes?

yeah it’s the winter solstus (sp?) that’s the end of this period in the mayen calender … but it’s just to mark the transition of when the earth/sun and middle of the galaxy are lined up this happens every 26 thou years iirc … it speards over several tens of years .. from the late 90’s to something like 2030 … but 2012 is when the sun is lined up the most. (It may allso have something to do with the suns magnetic cycle .. but i’m not so sure on that now)

we’re all gonna die? is that right? the myans???…. (cant speel) people recon its the end of their calendar ? (sorry too drunk to read your post)

well – I say life life to the full

you might get run over by a bus …….

so the moral of this story is ………..have clean knickers on at all times :laugh_at::laugh_at:

No we are not going to die!

One theory that is a bit more upbeat is ,that due to an increase in solar radiation and a weakening of the earths magentic field it will induce a planetwide mass DMT release. Would that qualify as a cataclysmic world changing event?

If you’re interested in this concept I would read the following book
Amazon.com: 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl (9781585424832): Daniel Pinchbeck: Books

Also listen to the Terrance McKenna ‘Tree of Knowledge’ lecture. I do not think the mayan calendar is particulally significant by itself, if I did believe anything ‘mystical’ about 2012 it would be because of McKenna’s timewave zero theory. I’m very skeptical of this however, it’s interesting but I’m not going to start battering down the hatches because the novelty theory predicts some major shit going down.

On the other hand, we are living in a time of exponentially increasing advances in technology and information, since the birth of the internet society has been rapidly accelerating, as has technology (look up the concept of ‘the singularity’ in technological advance). So if there is going to be a major paradigm shift it could well be soon, we had one in 1985 when the internet came out and we’re probably due another one soon, as such changes get more and more frequent over time.

I think if anything does happen in 2012 it will be because of a self-fullfilling phrophesy. Because all the hippies in the world are expecting something to happen, something will happen, ie if nobody expected anything to happen it would be an uneventful year but if a large enough percentage of the population is focused on a change, a change could well happen. It’s not the sort of thing that would go ‘BING!’ right on the minute predicted, the change could not be noticeable until years to come.

This is all conjecture though really. One thing is for sure I’ll be having a massive trippy party in december 2012 😀

Also thinking of going to Burning Man in 2012.. what a year to go no? 😉

if you ever listen to terence mkenna he just sounds like someone whos fucked in the head from way too may psychedelics he talks real slow and tbh he jst sounds silly to me but when you think about it how did the world begin? comets hit the earth and wiped out all the dinosaurs aswell, the polar ice caps are melting, theres floods and volcanos, tsunamis etc just cause its not really effected the uk dosent mean its impossible, its happened before so whos to say it wont again, nobody can say for certain so we’re just gonna have to wait and see but then again the worlds supposed to have ended before and how can they say the exact date aswell?

Terrence McKenna although arguably having his head in the clouds was an accomplished philosopher and anthropologist with a towering intellect, and his oration style is considered by most to be very poetic and hypnotic. Sure he’s turned into a goldmine of cliche psytrance samples but read his books before you judge him.

The media has jumped on the ‘end of the world’ bandwagon but 2012 isn’t about natural disasters. These could of course come at any time but the probability of something world-changing happening like a comet hitting earth in our lifetime is microscopic.

As we’ve been trying to point out, nobody thinks the world is going to end in 2012 except for people poking fun at the concept. ESPECIALLY not hippies who think it’s about evolution of a new phase of consciousness.

The mayan calendar does not even ‘finish’!! (Incredibly common misconception) This was stated in the opening post, it just starts a new long count, like our millenium celebrations. The mayans thought that life would go through a rebirth into a higher state of being at this point, it was considered a new beginning and not an ‘ending’.

  • *sigh* that doesn’t mean that it’s the end of the calendar, just the end of a long count, their longest period. It’s a cyclical calendar

    Long Count Mayan Calendar Cycle
Maya calendar – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia – notice it does not mention an ‘end’
