Adderall is a combination of various amfetamine salts.
It was not on the British National Formulary as of 2009, methylphenidate being preferred for ADHD treatment in juveniles (and usually in similar XR formulation to discourage recreational use/hoarding and diversion; About 10 years ago there was a big fuss in the North and Scotland about teenagers trading their spare meds to their age group and older people for mobile phone credit vouchers; it got combined with the paranoia over online grooming.
Very rarely the 1980s era “dexys” (SmithKline dexamfetamine sulfate tablets, 5mg instant relase) are prescribed for narcolepsy (potentially life threatening if untreated) and juvenile ADHD, adult treatment with either is “unlicensed” [not 100% sure what this means although I suspect it means a GP prescribing it has to be able to prove it is really required which is why adult ADHD often goes untreated and/or folk turn to “self-medication”.
The symptoms experienced by the OP are what I’d suspected might happen with an XR formulation but I am not a doctor and as I am also British am unfamiliar with this substance so thought it worth waiting to see what our American friends had to say.
(bear in mind the intended patients are both suffering from an unpleasant mental health condition and at an age when risk taking behaviour and attempts at self-harm are not uncommon; one reason for creating the XR formulation appears to be to discourage both recreational use reduce the risk of of a gross overdose.
