all over the news at the moment is that we are a nation of piss heads about to die from chronic organ failure at each others great expense
i see some silly sights in the high street on the weekend and that, but i don’t think it is anything different to past generations
i even had a kidney and liver function test a couple months ago as i was in a lot of pain and i started to get the fear that perhaps my lifestyle was about to deny my children a father… a fear fuleed by the media (ag!) but came up fine (turned out to be a spine problem in my lower back, the treatment for which the NHS won’t fund)
is alcohol the latest moral panic? they got the smokers, now they are coming for the drinkers
many towns and cities are blighted by theme-pub-booze-markets… is the good, old, british, community pub an imminently endangered species?
should i never drink 4 or 5 pints in a night, even if it means that i stop myself from going mad by doing so?
should we all become intensely-observed puritans with ‘nothing to hide’ (and nothing to laugh about)?
is this the price of prosperity?
too many questions… i need a beer!

Good man you enjoy your beer! The media love scaring us don’t they. My thoughts on all this are FEA – Fuck Em All! 😉
definately alcohol is becoming the latest moral panic, a lotta people my age are givin up everytin
its not anywhere near as big an issue as the media like to think, but when has the media ever not jumped on somethin! i’ve done daft daft things when drunk and one incident i’ll forever regret, but i cannot blame alcohol. the underlying problem reaches far further
i been at pub tonite, a good social drink! nowt wrong with that imo.
personally I think it is all down to media hype
there have always been alcoholics, drug addicts, incest, rape, murder, paedophiles etc etc
It’s just become the ‘norm’ to graphically ‘report’ these issues in recent years – hence people (i.e Sun readers and the like) jump on the band wagon….
same shit different era
this is what is bugging me
simple pleasures like smoking and drinking and raving are getting the same evil press as

my very tory and old boss said to me recently “i dont know why anyone would have kids today, either global warmin will get them or terrorism will!”
being best mates with their son and knowin how old he is, i was tempted to point out that when she had kids the IRA conducted much more frequent attacks than al queda or whatever
needless to say they read the daily mail
simple pleasures like smoking and drinking and raving are getting the same evil press as
indeed,
its a sad time when this happens
the media are doing the same thing hear in Oz at the moment, the past year its been all about ice, then people get sick of hearing the same old shit so they switch it to something else.
sorry for my ignorance… ice?
is that a slang name for something like meth?
we should all just put on the white suits now and act like zombies and eat grey food full of vitemins, what makes me laugh is the sun reports all this and its mainly there readers out doing it every weekend pmsl
Lets go back in time to the 19th Centuarary…….
Queen Vic is ugly and dressed in black…everyone is morally supressed and stiff upper lipped and alsohol was seen as the scurge of the working (and lower) classes.
Pictures were always drawn of groups of drunks, whores and a pub (a bit like Eastenders)
The victorians even put a spin on alcohol and the fact that its not a thing to do – so they put up taxes on alcohol. They even introduced non-alcohol pubs in areas where they worked (people often lived and worked in the same area and the company owned everything. So it was in the companies interest to introuce non alocohol serving pubs.
Even when Gin was introduced in the 1600’s there are pictures of drunks, whores and ultimately death.
What about America’s Prohibition law in the 20-30’s? They just made it underground and illegal gangs make millions, perhaps billions on illegal sales. if people are going to do it they will and no one can stop them.
Surely someone has to promote everything in moderation someday?
i thought it was a lot more of an issue til my old flatmate, who drinks a bottle of frosty jacks and a half bottle of vodka ever day, had a liver and kidney test and was told he had the liver of a 23 yera old….not bad for a 21 year old who has drank heavily every day for 5 years.
i rarely drink, being drunk is to dfficult to achieve when a line of k will do it in minutes
i binge drink every weekend in theme bars to the tune of probbly 40 pints a weekend give or take. n my livers a1 i do some daft stuff like get in fights, talk shit, shag mingers n break things but its all part of the fun init. nooooo future nooooo future!
