I am a 56 yr old who has been smoking pot almost daily since the 1970’s. Yes, I’m an old hippie.
To make a very long story short, I stopped ALL pot smoking on Oct. 1, 2013, knowing that I would be subjected to urine drug screening when applying for a new job. I drank gallons of water, got plenty of exercise, and was not around anyone else smoking pot, and on Jan. 10, 2014, I tested POSITIVE for THC and lost a job opportunity. I couldn’t believe I tested positive after not smoking for more than 90 days!!
So, I ordered 6 THC at-home urine tests made by Alere (on website HomeHealthTesting.com) that screened for any levels ABOVE 50 ng/ml (which is the standard threshold for testing positive in the USA).
Then I went to my private physician (yes, she knows I enjoy smoking) and paid for my OWN urine THC screening on Feb. 1, 2014 – and tested POSITIVE, but only at 14.5 ng/ml (which means I would have passed a standard pre-employment test.)
NOW…HERE’S MY COMPLAINT!!! — The Alere home test strips arrived on Feb. 6, 2014, and I tested positive, but they are only supposed to test positive for OVER 50 ng/ml!!!! In other words — the test was WRONG. It wasn’t possible that I had more than 50 ng/ml when I tested at 14.5 ng/ml on Feb. 1, 2014!!
I HAVE CONTINUED TO NOT SMOKE AND HAVE TAKEN A NEW TEST EACH SUNDAY SINCE —AND I AM SITTING HERE STARING AT TODAY’S TEST SAYING I AM STILL POSITIVE FOR MORE THAN 50 ng/ml –WHEN I KNOW THAT ISN’T POSSIBLE! SO, I SAY THESE TESTS ARE BULLSHIT!!! THEY JUST WANT YOU TO THINK YOU’RE POSITIVE (OVER 50NG/ML) SO YOU KEEP BUYING THEIR TESTS!!!!!! HEADS UP — THESE TESTS ARE NOT RELIABLE!!!!! (P.S. – I am very aware of every other drug, such as ibuprofen, etc. that can cause a false positive. I am not taking ANY OTHER medications or over the counter medications!) Again….I have not smoked since Oct. 1, 2013….Today is Feb. 23, 2014…. NEARLY 5 MONTHS OF NO SMOKING~!~!~ and I KNOW that I only had 14.5 ng/ml on Feb. 1. 2014, yet these worthless Alere strips are still reading positive for OVER 50 ng/ml today!! WORTHLESS SCAM!!:head_bang
